Kaaskop — Restaurant in Rotterdam

We saw this place from an Instagram account and were excited to try those creamy cheesy pastas. When we got there, we had the chance to meet the owner who is a really nice and welcoming person. However the food didn't leave the same impression on us. The pasta is definitely fresh, yet we had almost no sauce choice left that day. So we could try only truffle cheese and bolognese. The both sauce were watery and felt rarified. We barely got the cheese taste. We also wanted to order big size and were told that they don't have it anymore that day which felt a bit interesting because all you need to do is to add more pasta to the plate. The portions are super small that we had to have another meal somewhere else afterwards. We wanted to share our feedback with the owner, yet he wasn't around when we left. This is such a good business model that Rotterdam deserves, however it could be a waste if the quality keeps being...

This is a typical “I fell for the social media trap” experience.

I went in with high expectations as what they post on social media looks nothing short of perfect. What I had was far from it.

2 problems for me:

1. the stand out thing here being that the pasta is mixed on the cheese wheel, but the problem is, when you have something that is boiling, and add it to cheese, the cheese becomes watery. This is not what I was expecting from my experience, but unfortunately what I got.

2. the pasta … when I saw them making the pasta from scratch, I could not wait to have this. But it was so undercooked that it was an unpleasant experience.

Mix the uncooked pasta with the watery cheese and you have the foundation of what you’re selling wrong.

Great place that serves really tasty food. The pasta is hand made/cut with perfect thickness.

We ordered the pesto with extra parmigiano and the truffle with mushrooms and onions. Our order was freshly made in front of us using great quality ingredients.

Portions are the right amount. Coffee is of great quality and their delicious homemade Tiramisù completes your meal perfectly. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is nice and cozy.

Personally, I believe the use of the cheese wheel while cooking the pasta is a unique taste experience that the city needs and I hope this review will motivate more visitors to come and enjoy it.
