Portugalia: A Slice of Portugal on Your Plate
Walking into Portugalia feels like stepping into a warm embrace, where the charm of Portugal meets the heart of exceptional dining. This restaurant doesn’t just serve food; it crafts an experience, transporting you straight to the cobbled streets and sun-soaked coastlines of the Iberian Peninsula.
We started our journey with the choco frito—a must-try dish that immediately sparked nostalgia. First tasted in Setúbal, this dish brought back cherished memories. Portugalia’s rendition delivered: tender, golden-fried squid with just the right crunch, perfectly seasoned to honor its Portuguese roots.
For mains, we opted for two stellar dishes. The charcoal-roasted chicken was nothing short of perfection. Juicy, smoky, and full of flavor, it was paired with a hot sauce that balanced heat and tanginess beautifully—an ideal choice for spice enthusiasts. The bavette with mushroom sauce, however, was the star of the evening. Rich, savory, and deeply satisfying, it was my personal favorite. Both dishes were accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables that were fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor.
No Portuguese dining experience is complete without dessert, so naturally, we couldn’t resist the iconic Pastel de Nata. Portugalia’s take on this classic delivered a luscious, creamy filling encased in a crisp, flaky pastry. The texture was flawless—a fitting finale to an extraordinary meal.
The service was impeccable. Our waitstaff were attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our glasses were always full and checking in regularly to make sure everything exceeded expectations. Their friendliness and knowledge added an extra layer of warmth to an already stellar evening.
Portugalia isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a love letter to Portugal. From the first bite to the last, every dish evokes the country’s rich culinary heritage, transporting diners to a place where food, memories, and passion converge. We will definitely be coming back. For anyone longing for a taste of Portugal, Portugalia is the next best thing to hopping on a plane. A...
Read moreWe had dinner at Portugalia Tasca as a small group of 3 people, and we had a great experience. We tried the codfish pastries (Pastéis de bacalhau) and blood sausage (Chouriço ou Moira assado em aguardente) as starters. The sausage was a feast for the eye! They pour alcohol and flambe it when they serve it, and it was really tasty. I had the codfish and potato scramble (bacalhau a bras) as main, it was well-seasoned, and the cod taste was pronounced through. The other mains were grilled octopus and grilled seabass (catch of the day). The seabass was good, well-made and tasty, one of the better seabass dishes I had in the Netherlands. But the grilled octopus was the highlight of the night! I've tried grilled octopus at several places in the Netherlands, and by far, this was the best I've tasted! It was cooked just right, so it remained juicy but still crispy and charred on the outside. Their pastel de nata was also good, although I can't comment on how authentic it was since I've never been to Portugal myself.
They have a pretty decent wine menu, but only limited options by glass. So it's best to go as a group and order a bottle. They serve tap water, both distilled and still too, which can be challenging to find at some restaurants. We were really happy with the service too, the staff is very kind and they're quite knowledgeable about the food! Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and our time at Portuglia Tasca, and we'll definitely...
Read moreWe arrived here quite late. Around 20:30. They have quite an extensive menu. We decided to order just starters/snacks for the 2 of us, because we have never eaten those dishes before and wanted to share everything (will have to come back to try some of the mains). The dishes came pretty fast and they were delicious. The bartender was quite enthousiastic 👌 and the other servers were friendly too. Had a small talk and apparently they opened a new restaurant next door! (Opened a week ago - currently open for just 3 days. Thursday, Friday and Saturday if i recall correctly). Overall hospitality was good and the food/drinks were great. We wanted to try some real and different Portugese food, than the ones we already know of. And this restaurant delivered :) Not forget to mention, the staff are Portugese too! Definitely recommend this restaurant.
P.s. i really recommend their banana pie. They gave a generous sized portion and it tasted divine! Would come back just for the...
