Stadsingang - Diergaarde Blijdorp — Attraction in Rotterdam

This is quite the experience. When we got there, it seemed to be an abandoned place, bit it's not vacation time and we entered from the smaller entry...(I didn't know that there was more than 1 entry). But once we got in...it was an amazing experience. It is reallyyyy big and you will have to walk for hours, so wear confortable shoes, but it is really worth it. I loved the habitat that they have created for each animal. Seeing the elephant, giraf, penguins, polar bear, and so on up close was amazing. I'm not a fan of keeping animals in a zoo as an attraction and I don't know all the ins and outs of this zoo either. But the habitat created for them (eventhough they would have much bigger spaces in the wild...I am aware of that) is quite impressive! They had some snacks, burgers, ice cream and drinks to choose from. And they have this HUGE like treehouse playground for kids. Two thumbs up...

The zoo is easy to get to by metro and a short walk. The first impression was that it looked like a ghost town, but once inside and amongst the animal exhibits it got a lot better.

Some of the bigger animals were obviously staying in the warm, rather than the 0 degrees we were out in, but it’s never a given to see all animals, especially when they don’t have public viewing for all of the indoor areas.

The aquarium was excellent and the staff who were around and giving out information were clearly people who were passionate about their jobs.

There were a lot of modern exhibits, but some looked tired and the buildings that seem to be abandoned for the winter only add to that impression. There were also some places that work was being done and it distracted from the normal flowing walk that could otherwise be done round the zoo to ensure...

Beware! There be wild animals aboot. This is the entrance to the zoo. I love coming to Blijdorp Zoo for a nice relaxing stroll. This place has loads of animals. Big ones. Small ones. In-between ones. I don't know how many but there must be hundres of animals here. On good days I count up to at least twenty. They also have humans here. Treat them in the right way and they will give you food.
