Our experience was overwhelmingly negative, and so unfortunately, we must write the following review about Jules Restaurant in Den Haag…
We booked this place for a friend group reunion as we'd had such a good experience here together two years prior (Feb 2022). We even asked for the same table that is in a semi-private room with a piano.
We informed the restaurant beforehand that we were celebrating many special occasions - a 30th birthday, an engagement, a marriage and a pregnancy... we were all very excited to mark the life milestones that had happened between us all in the last two years. There was also zero acknowledgment of this either from Jules Restaurant - on the booking dialogue over email; at the restaurant (and table) itself, or over the phone when we asked if we could bring our own cake to be lit.
There were so many issues with the food we ordered… To begin with, a couple at our table ordered one entree to share and got given two of them. They didn’t complain or mention the mistake as everything else was okay - pick your battles etc.
However, the chaotic service really escalated for the main meals. Half of the table ordered steak and it was incorrect for all of those people.
Everyone asked for varying levels of cooking for their beef - but all of the steaks were extremely undercooked - red and bloody. Two of the people at the table chose to stay quiet and eat their food as it was, rather than asking for further cooking (and delay) to eating. The other couple of people asked for the meat to be cooked further.
One of us ordered the daily special steak, and received the regular steak dish from the menu (completely different cuts of meat). His plate returned without difference - still pink, still bloody. It was returned to the kitchen for a second time, only to to receive it back again more cooked, but also without said fries and sauce. IT TOOK FOUR ATTEMPTS TO GET A MEAL RIGHT THAT THIS PERSON HAD NOT EVEN ORIGINALLY ASKED FOR. Meanwhile, the rest of the party had finished their meals.
To add to this underwhelming experience, the whole thing took over three hours. We refrained from desserts, further drinks and even the lighting of our own dessert because we felt so disappointed with the whole experience.
We were not offered a single apology or even acknowledgment of mistakes that were made on the restaurant’s behalf. When the bill arrived, we brought up all of these complaints with our server, in the hope that they would attempt to rectify the situation. After nothing was offered, we asked for two meals to be removed from the total bill (those who had to wait a really long time), which was accepted with a sour atmosphere of disdain.
I know Den Haag is not famous for its excellent cuisine or customer service, but it is truly a sad state of affairs when you know you could do a better job at home.
Every single one of us is disappointed and will not be returning to Jules.
An extra point: my partner is a classically trained pianist who has played for Barack Obama. Two years ago in Jules, we were able to play the birthday song to our friend and were both encouraged and celebrated by the staff and fellow diners to do so. This time, we simply got told that they “have neighbours, so keep it down”. This restaurant has declined in hospitality in every sense of the word and doesn’t deserve your...
Read moreAWFUL SERVICE and average food. We have previously eaten here a number of times and been satisfied, but certainly not today. 4 of us sat down @18:45, starters and wine were fine and served within 20 minutes. However, over 90 minutes later we were still awaiting our main courses and when they eventually arrived ALL THE DISHES WERE COLD. The WAITER APPEARED COMPLETELY UNINTERESTED and only when we insisted there was a real problem he returned the dishes to the kitchen. 5 mins later the dishes came back with clearly THE SAME FOOD REHEATED resulting in dry overcooked fish and overcooked 'well done' duckbreast. Being tired and hungry from travelling all day we did not complain again but ate part of the dishes and requested the bill. NOTHING WAS OFFERED in the way of correction/compensation and we were too tired and disappointed to engage in further discussion. Apparently a restaurant serving French cuisine in The Hague now also means French (Paris) tourist restaurant type service with a TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT OR INTEREST for the paying customer :-( We hope for the sake of the owners that this was a once off or Jules will surely go the same way as it's...
Read moreMy partner and I came here for our Valentine’s Day reservation and our experience was just unfortunate. We accidentally made our reservation for outside which was okay but then the service for our food was really poor. We got our main course which was so little food for an exceptional amount of money and then waited for an hour and a half for the fondue to come out without any additional drinks because of the price point. It was so expensive for so little food that we ended up going to KFC after to satisfy our stomachs. The lobster bisque was really delicious after all, so the flavors are still very good. The service was unfortunate and since it was Valentine’s Day it disappointed a little more because we were cold, hungry, and...
