After hearing very positive things about Kyatcha from friends, I was excited to visit and try their food but unfortunately left disappointed. The food was okay, but nothing special and it was extremely expensive.
When we arrived, we ordered the Crispy Rice Tuna Tartar and Gyozas to have with a cocktail, the Wagu Old Fashioned and Lychee on a Cloud. The Crispy Rice Tuna Tartar was nice (the best thing I ate) and the Gyozas were okay, however, we finished these long before our drinks arrived as they took around half an hour to get to us. The Wagu Old Fashioned just tasted like a glass of Whiskey, not at all what I was expecting from the menu description and is in no way worth the 19 euros that it cost. The Lychee on a Cloud, on the other hand, was very nice.
For our main set of sushi we started with Toro Tuna Sashimi, which is meant to be fatty and luxurious, but was just three pieces of normal thickly cut Tuna (this was extremely disappointing, as Toro is one of my favourite things). We also had Hamachi Triadito Shashimi, which was good with the interesting combination of other ingredients.
For our main set of sushi we had the flambéed Salmon Nigiri which were the smallest Nigiri I've ever had, the King Oyster Mushroom Roll (which was my partners favourite), the Tempura Scallops and Spicy Tuna both of which were fine.
We ordered the least expensive bottle of Sake, which was okay but I was expecting a larger bottle for 33 euro and it was served in wine glasses instead of Sake cups. Finally, we had the Yuzu Creme Brulee with Passion fruit sorbet. This was nice and refreshing, but the Brulee wasn't thick or cooked enough to have the snap you expect.
The service overall was quite poor it. I feel like they were one or two staff short for how busy they were.
Overall, for the prices Kyatcha are charging everything should be exceptional, however, my experience was average at best. I've been lucky enough to eat at 2 one Michelin starred restaurants this year and both cost less than my meal here, with some of the best things I've ever eaten. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Kyatcha, instead, go to one of many great sushi restaurants in The Hague, spend half as much money and eat just...
Read moreYesterday we took our friends to dinner (a party of 6). We had visited Kyatcha a few times before and were impressed. Having enjoyed exquisite sushi's and Japanese cuisine there, we expected to spend a wonderful evening with friends whom we hadn't seen quite a while. Knowing the price is a bit hefty we chose Kyatcha anyway because we thought it worthed and wanted to impress our friends. What a terrible experience it turned out to be! Kyatcha cannot rely on our further support and it certainly does not deserve the high grades it has received on this site anymore.
Right of the bat, disappointment set in with our waitress. She radiated no hospitality. She summed up the choices to be made with the menu...in English...and with the speed of light! No empathy for our short attention span as we were in still in the high-spirits of our re-encouter with friends. Also no respect that we needed to translate these menu instructions to them. Only 2 of us noticed that in the Omakase menu (putting courses completely in the hands of the chef) would not contain any sushi. Somewhere in her quick account she had said that a choice for Omakase would mean Omakase for everyone in our group. Although our objective was not to miss out on great sushi, some of us (being the ones who had missed the 'no sushi' detail) were interested in Omakase. Choice was made for the Omakase 5 courses, 68€ (!) per person.
Our ratings: first course with scallops was surprising each course hereafter was dissappointing and had no wow-effect, overall taste was...bland dessert was lacking sweetness and frankly was terrible water glasses were removed immediately if not taking water from the start every time there was spillage when pouring the wine chocolates with the coffee service were inedible, the other treats were peppermints and Napoleon drops from the supermarket Kyatcha, if you want to build a good reputation then be consistent! Check out your dishes for the Omakase to have taste. And also, please give your waiting personel hospitality training. You want our money? Than make us...
Read moreHonest review about our experience today. Wanted to treat my parents to a nice sushi dinner on their last night in the Netherlands, went for this place because of their 4.8 rating. Booked a table this morning for dinner, upon arrival we were greeted with a curt 'table 13' by an English speaking lady - turns out that was the table in front of the toilet all the way in the back (red flag #1). Alternatively, a table right by the entrance was also available - best two tables in the house eh, and I kindly asked for a nice table. We were also promptly informed we had our table until 19:45. Somewhat unwelcoming but we decided to stay. Food was slightly above average: overall good, but what's sold as a crab meat roll was actually a surimi stick roll/imitation crab, not actual crab meat - red flag #2. Not sure why they feel the need to mislead their customers. But the most shocking part of our experience was the end: our waiter, who was quite nice and friendly throughout our dinner, approached us at 18:20 to clear our plates (we started our dinner around 17:15). He informed us that 'our dinner was coming to an end' and pointed to his watch. I asked politely if we had enough time for dessert, to which I kid you not: he pointed to his watch again, made an awkwardly long pause and said 'um I don't think so'. Seriously???! He apologised though when I reminded him what time we actually started our dinner, and said that he ‘lost track of time’. Needless to say that made us feel extremely uncomfortable and completely ruined the mood, my parents were offended and wanted to leave right away. And yeah, this place isn't cheap - our bill was 200+ euros yet we were made to feel like they were doing us a huge favour in the end. What an awful aftertaste right now, avoid this place and take your...
