(Spoiler alert: It is 700 words and it is negative) This is a specialty coffee shop that is advertised by Single Estate Coffee Roasters(hereafter:SECR) as a "flagship bar".As someone who only uses SECR coffee beans at home, I can attest to their exceptional quality and the fact that they offer a wide variety of high-quality coffee beans that represent the most complete range of top-quality coffee varieties in the Netherlands -only the excellent varieties of Shokunin can stand next to them. It's worth noting that SECR supplies two varieties (from Guatemala and Costa Rica) to several cafés, including some of the top coffee chains in the Netherlands (such as Chocolate Company and Barista). My experience with SECR“flagship bar” dates back to its opening days, and I have been not only a regular visitor but a loyal customer ever since.Consequently, I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with the current state of this “flagship bar", which falls too short in providing a boutique café experience, which it should aim to achieve. Its management has become increasingly nonexistent or unacceptably amateurish, being content to rest on their laurels and let the quality of the coffee beans do all the work.3 maybe 4 ladies seem to know their job well and provide good service, but unfortunately even them, they operate under the same deplorable management. For instance,SECR has only one line for both takeout and in-house order&pays, even during peak hours. Therefore, if you are already seated and you want to order an extra item, you have to wait in the same queue as everyone ordering takeaway, thus creating an inconvenient and sometimes even frustrating experience.“Flagship bar”’s croissants, both savory and sweet, are served only cold; neadless to say that this negatively affects their quality and taste, making some of them almost uneatable. On 11.03.23, most of the glassware (e.g.,water glasses) was again dull and scratched, and all should have been replaced. The lighting in the restrooms was again ridiculously inadequate, and customers have raised ehm concerns about it several times. That same day, we had a disappointing experience at the SECR bar. The behavior of the staff was not only unprofessional but also unethical. The server, who seemed to be in charge of the others, insisted on serving us two people with two different pastries without providing us neither a second plate nor any cutlery. When asked for cutlery,he gave only one set. When asked if the clearly stale and hard prosciutto&cheese croissant could be heated up, he replied that it is against the store policy to do so. This raised the question of whether the store policy has changed, as it was our knowledge that they could warm up food –at least stale and hard ‘croissants’- upon request. What was even more shocking was when we tried to purchase a 1kg package of Costa Rica-Joiner Alvarado coffee beans, which was priced at €38.5. Since the store did not have the 1kg package available, the employee charged us for 4 250-gram packages, which totaled €40. This is not only deceptive pricing but also shows a lack of consideration for the customer's needs disrespecting the policy of this store to sell 4 250grs at the price of 1kg. This behavior should be addressed as it is unacceptable to treat customers with such a lack of respect. In summary, although SECR’s “flagship bar” offers exceptional coffee varieties, it fails to deliver a boutique café experience due to poor management and a lack of both elementary knowledge of the basics and attention to detail. The management and staff are more interested in cutting corners than in providing a quality experience for their customers. Customers should not be subjected to such unprofessional behavior who even disregards the store own policies. It is a shame that a store that claims to be a flagship bar cannot even provide basic customer service. I hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and takes necessary measures to improve the...
Read moreExceptional quality of coffee and well trained baristas. Unfortunately, the place lacks of serious management and it dissapoints a great deal a coffee afficionado like me and my husband, although we are regulars from the very first day of its opening and we always buy our coffee beans (for our house ) from here and we will continue to do so. They should use two coffee machines instead of one, to serve the customers. One for the take out section and the other for the sit in. We cannot wait in a sometimes- huge line together with the take away customers, just to order our coffees, while we will seat in the place, this policy lacks logic. Also , as coffee experts ,the people who run the Single Estate , they really should put more effort in the pastries section, which is -to put it nicely- very poor. Always, always, a superior quality coffee goes together with a super quality pastry sweet, or savoury. And what we get from Single Estate ? The croissants are very dry and basically there is no variety whatsoever.. Pain au Chocolat, some cinnamon roll, some pastry with bacon and thats it, all of them dry and cold, not the best quality, unfortunately and yes, we know that they are fresh, baked inside the premises. Yes, but what about a nice tart ? I am just sayin🙂
I would prefer to have the choice to accompany my coffee with a superior carrot cake, a super elegant chocolate cake, or something equivalent with the impeccable quality of coffee that Single...
Read moreHey there! Today was freezing outside, but that didn't stop me from heading to Den Haag and checking out @singleestatecoffeeroasters !!I've been waiting to try their specialty beans and I wasn't disappointed. I started with their Origami Brew, which had the most incredible strawberry notes I've ever tasted - shoutout to Andy for the recommendation! They only had 40g left, so I picked up 20g for myself and 20g to share with friends during our cupping in Amman.
Next up, I wanted to try their espresso beans and Kerrin recommended the "Coffee Tasting" option which allowed me to sample two different types of beans. It was amazing and they even gave me a small cup of filtered coffee to try a fourth option 🫶
The place has such a great vibe, and the baristas were super friendly and knowledgeable. I loved everything from the setup to the beans - I can't wait to go back! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to chat. Oh, and a special thanks to Andy and the owner/manager for the Coffee Tube - you...
