3.5/4
We had dinner as a large group (8 people) at Ouzomezes, and it was a great experience. It's a meze restaurant so they only do bite-sized food to be enjoyed along with Ouzo and they don't have any mains. Thw highlights were the stuffed eggplant (papoutsaki), grilled octopus with fava (htapodi sharas me fava), and pork wine sausage (loukaniko krasato). Octopus was cooked really well, it had a pleasant hint of "char" from the grill and I liked the seasoning. My favorite was the sausage though, the seasoning was, again, on point! They serve pita bread warm, brushed with olive oil and I thought it was a nice touch. To finish off, I had the portokalopita with ice cream. I also tried the galaktoboureko. Both were tasty, the orange cake had so much orange flavor in it, almost rivaling my mother's orange cake. But the galaktoboureko had too much phyllo and not enough custard for my taste.
Although we were a large group and the place was packed full the staff was really patient with us ordering randomly, all over the place. They were helpful and kind, they even refreshed one person's coffee because her food took a while to come. The place also has a nice atmosphere, very cozy with all the "Greek" decorations, it'd be nice if the plants were real though. I'd really appreciate if they had a better wine menu too, but I'm aware the place is named after "ouzo". Overall, their food is really tasty and you can tell they use good ingredients, and the seasonings are on point. I'd definitely come back to try out rest...
Read moreWhat an absolutely fantastic experience we had the pleasure of enjoying here. We came for a dinner with a group of seven and were promised a menu being catered to every taste with a big variety of dishes to explore the Greek culture. I was not ready for the level of service and impressive quality the kitchen had served to us. The wonderful couple who runs this restaurant is genuine, warmhearted and passionate about what they do.
The decor of the restaurant seems well thought out and creates a cozy Greek atmosphere, it felt almost as though we were not in the rainy Netherlands anymore but rather on a quick vacation to the sunshine. Then comes the food... WOW. I think it redefined the flavors of Greek food to me, a little story to each dish only added to my excitement. I felt as though the food was thoughtfully curated and filled with freshness and flavor. We were lucky to get a little taste of everything from a typical salad, to warm eggplant dishes and of course fresh seafood and meats.
I must say this is one of the best Greek restaurants I have ever eaten at and would without a doubt go back. The warm hospitality and genuine passion for the food created such a wonderful evening for...
Read moreWe went to the pre-opening of this lovely and authentic Greek restaurant in the heart of The Hague city.
When we entered it felt like we just spent hours in a plane ✈️ travelling to one of the many Greek islands. A very warm and welcoming atmosphere to say the least.
We were greeted at the door with a warm smile from one of the servers. Passing the bar we also got a greet and a smile ! A big tick for me (coming from the hospitality industry myself).
We proceeded upstairs to our table. After our drinks got served we heard that it was a set menu (only for this night !) and that the concept would be small “Greek tapas”. A brilliant idea if you ask me. (I might be a little bias after having tasted the food).
To sum up: great Greek products (food and drinks) good ambiance excellent service, you can see that there is passion working with the products they serve. good management, the owner came by and asked if everything was according to our wishes. We could tell that she is very proud of what she is doing
Side note: when the meal is done do not hesitate to ask for ouzo the Greek way ! What a way to finish an awesome dinner.
We will be back Ouzomezes...
