We visited Villa Coucou a few weeks ago for dinner and intended to use our American Express Dinergoed voucher. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing on multiple fronts.

Almost immediately after being seated, we were subjected to unprofessional and relentless pushy upselling by multiple servers in succession. Two different servers approached our table, taking turns to aggressively push the same oysters and champagne without any introduction or description whatsoever. They simply kept asking if we wanted them, creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere and giving the impression that the staff assumed we couldn't afford anything beyond the voucher. This persistent and rude behavior was a terrible start to our meal.

Furthermore, after we finally ordered drinks, we had to ask for them three separate times before they were eventually brought to our table. This extremely slow service was unacceptable and significantly detracted from our dining experience.

To top it off, the food itself was very ordinary and did not justify the prices or the overall impression the restaurant seemed to want to convey.

Adding to our disappointment, at the end of our meal, we were even told that leaving a review on Google Maps could potentially earn us a free lunch. This tactic seems like a questionable attempt to solicit positive feedback, rather than focusing on providing a genuinely excellent dining experience. This is not the kind of promotion one would expect from a restaurant claiming to be high-end.

Based on the combination of unprofessional and relentless pushy upselling (by multiple servers), incredibly slow service, mediocre food, and these questionable review tactics, I cannot recommend...

How i wanted to love this place, it was not meant to be! Its not often that you get new restaurants that have this scale and ambition. A chef and owner who want to get the next michelin star to the city. So our expectations were high. When we got there we were welcomed with open arms but also with the statement that jeans and designer sneakers were not the attire they wanted in the restaurant and that this was stated on both the website (to this day it is not), and the confirmation e-mail (where it is, but who reads these as a whole). We did a quick costume change and came back for some drinks and dinner.

After about 5 min at the bar we were surprise to see people in faded jeans and sneakers walk in, great all the staff and getting a table no question. Not a good start.

For dinner we chose the chefs menu with a wine pairing. The plates that came out were delicate, but so subtle that it was hard to make out what you were tasting. The winepairing was ok but in any restaurant were you can get the pairing you get an explantion on which wine you are getting, what the main notes are and why this wine is paired with a dish. Here you got: this is a chardonay form south africa, and gone was the waitress. Unfortunatly the glasses werent clean, (dirty cloth to dry them) when stating this we did get a replacement but not much of an applology.

To top it off the chef came to the table to get some feedback and prompty stated that the better dishes were not part of the tasting. Why offer a tasting if you dont showcase the best.

All in all not a place i would recogment or come back to. If they want that star then they need to start working on...

My wife and I went for the “Coucou experience”, which is a package on its own: welcome champagne glass, 6-course menu with a selected glass of wine *per* course, digestive, all of this on a dedicated table literally 2 meters from the kitchen. It also involves the plates being served by chef Alexandre, which adds a very nice touch. Portions were adequate (read: really the right size, not the minimalistic portions you can sometimes see in fine restaurants), the wines were original and very good matches for the various courses. Since it was a Wednesday, it was very quiet and we had time to ask for more information and discuss, I am unsure how busy it is on weekends. Overall a superb restaurant which, in my opinion, will definitely have its Michelin star soon. If I compare with other 1-star restaurants my wife and I had the chance to eat at, Villa Coucou clearly has nothing to envy, it is definitely grande cuisine. The food was excellent, the service was very good, polite and relaxed but not stilted. I highly recommended!

Visited the restaurant on my friend's 40th birthday last night. The building and atmosphere were great, the bar lighting could be better though, the mood was a bit cold. The service was great, very attentive. The champagne was great but the 3 bites came with it were "what is going on here?" The first bite, the bread was dried, the cream on top was old, not freshly made, the second bite was anchovies - extremely salty and plain taste...not sure why it should be enhancing the elegant champagne???The last bite was pleasant but camouflage onto the plate. Coming to the dinner. The starter - foie gras in broth was the highlight of the night - perfect. Strange at first but the whole taste was completed, complementary to each other. Bravo... The main course was scallop with ravioli - too much going on. The sources were over powering and fighting to each other. Quite disappointed actually. The desert was great, soufflés was a beautiful closing night.

The quality of the food wasn’t really in balance with the price in my humble opinion. The dishes were pretentious but hardly substantial. Maybe I underestimate the labour that went into it but nothing lead to anything close to a wow-effect. The wine was ok but the pairing didn’t take the food to another level, nor vice versa. Chef Alexandre came to the table doing his duty. He is a charming young man but it all felt cold, just like the (friendly) staff. Honestly I was still somewhat hungry after the 6 course meal. For €135 per person I just expect more. Maybe I compare too much with recent dining experiences in France, so in all fairness I should compare to local offerings. So when I truly feel I underrated Villa Coucou I’ll immediately come back to change my review. In the end Michelin’s appraisal couldn’t be wrong: “The chef here is passionate about top-quality ingredients and enjoys toying with intense aromas and light textures.”
