't Taphuys Utrecht — Restaurant in Utrecht

This is not a place for a group. Very poor service. Very rude staff. I emailed the restaurant 2 weeks in advance. I told that we are 10 people and asked whether a-la-carte would be an option because their group menu was not good enough and simply because we wanted to try aubergine dishes. I got the reply that it is absolutely possible. But once we placed the orders via their qr codes, the staff cancelled all the orders citing they do not have enough food for us of our choice. We were then given a different (printed paper) menu which had mostly bar food like chicken bites, croquettes, supermarket gyoza, burger and more fried stuff. The staff was extremely unacomodating. It was embarrassing to say the least. Next to that they made us wait for more than 1.5 hours for the food. For fried food! There was no apology, no courtesy. Utter disgrace. I loved the concept and the interior! It's not cheap but there is great variation and some real treasures to be found among the wines, my boyfriend enjoyed the beers too. A few points of improvement:

We came at lunch time. The lunch menu is quite standard with breads, salads and burgers. All food we had was delicious, but since we wanted to stay around for a while, we were missing some light wine-friendly snacks like olives, cheeses or ham. Just something to eat without having to commit to another main dish. I think that's important when the concept evolves so much around alcoholic drinks. If you come for dinner there is a selection of borrelplankjes etc. The internet reception is very weak, which is frustrating when you want to look at the menu. The water is crazy expensive.

But overall I had a positive experience and I will be back :) Nice...

Honestly this place was amazing the last time I went there I would have easily said best cocktails and food. I recommended we go here today to also scout a for a suitable place for my upcoming birthday party. However we were sadly disappointed by the lack of service. Drinks took an hour to be severed and when I enquired whether we could change it to the card top up I was told only once the drinks come. Then when we switched there were barely any good wines left on tap. Lastly the waiter came to tell us to leave at 7pm because our table was reserved when in fact there was another table right behind us. We needed to ask him whether he could change the reservation to the other table which was the same size. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone there are far better places in Utrecht with...
