Firstly I have to say, these people working for the Tourist Information are so great, always Kind and Happy, answering all my questions. In the end I took the Carillon Tour and had the pleasure, that we were just 3 People and the Guide. So there was Time for everyone and we didn't need to hurry. I told them at the beginning, that i am afraid of heights and the Guide plus the other People just helped me so much. The Guide was really, really sweet, she always had an eye on me, watching and asking If everything's alright. Even when we were at the top, she didn't walk around or something, just standed near me, watching and asking, If i feel alright. I don't know if she didn't walk around because of me, so she could have an eye on me or not, but it has helped a lot. She explained everything around the Tower the Carillon so Well and you feel her Heart is beating for that City, that Tower and that Job. She was so Kind, answered every question, tried to calm me down, told me it would be okay If I cannot go any further, but with her and the Help of the other 2 People (that one Lady sang for me when i told her it helps me keeping my calm) I really got up the whole 95 metres, with less anxiety than going on my home balcony. Overall a 20/10 Experience seeing Malgosia Fiebig playing the Carillon and making music for the whole City. It's so mindblowing how all of that works and how These people put their Heart and Soul into all of this and how beautiful it Sounds. But that Guide (I wish I asked for her Name) she was one of 2 People who made my entire trip in Utrecht and i will remember that for a long Time. She is really a gem and there is no number or word, which can describe her and her effort. Thank you so much for...
Read moreOur Utrecht adventure found us at the city's famous Dom Tower. As other reviewers mentioned, you can only visit the tower as part of a tour and are not allowed up on your own. This is not an issue though as the stairs are extremely narrow at the top, so we were thankful that there was someone there to organise us all. Also the tours are every 30 minutes so you won't be waiting for long.
Having bought our tickets at the information centre (across the street from the tower) we were asked to leave our bags in the free lockers before moving on to the start of the tour. At each stage of the tour the guide gave us some history about the tower and told us about each room we were in (in both English and Dutch), before heading up to the next room. The guide was extremely friendly and engaging, making sure the tour was fun for both the adults and the children. It was quite a climb to the top, especially towards the end with the steep spiral staircase, but the breathtaking view of Utrecht at the top was definitely worth it!
We would have given this 5 stars, but there are currently renovations at the top of the tower and your view is blocked on one level by scaffolding. The guide explained that this was necessary to maintain the tower and will be up for 5 years. Overall a very good way to spend an hour or so of...
Read moreVery cool unique experience. We had a large group and the tour guide did a wonderful job swapping between Dutch and English the entire time! He answered questions thoughtfully and I'm sorry I didn't get his name to put in here! (We were there Thursday, Aug 29 at 12noon). Not going to lie, my legs were shaking by the end and took my calves a couple days to recover. The climb wasn't so bad at first but obviously got harder as we went. There were some stops along the way to allow us to rest, and there were people there much older than me who managed it, but it certainly wasn't easy. If you have any kind of disability that makes stairs difficult, or if you can get a bit claustrophobic, I probably wouldn't recommend this experience for you. That being said, I'd still say it was worth it (for me), especially to see the awesome view at the top. Love that a historical tour like this is available and I hope they are able to showcase this amazing building for many...
