To be honest I was shocked by the food. I was anticipating a good meal based on the reviews and what was on the menu.
We were warned by the server that the dished were small. That was an understatement. But ok we were warned and ordered accordingly. However, I anticipated that foods from this region of the world would be very flavorful. The dishes were consistently bland. The naan was almost cracker-like and without any flavor. Plov had a small chunk of dried-out veal and was tasteless. Dopiazza Gosala was dried-out and bland. The onion sauce was ok.
As the one who does the cooking I had to tell my wife, that cooking meats a long time doesn't mean that they get dried out, just tender, which wasn't true of the lamb or veal. They weren't tender and were dried out. That's poor cooking technique.
Seekh kebab bara was supposed to be spiced. Bland and no salt. Dolma bandejan barely tasted of eggplant let alone any spices. Salat Mazara and tursu (spicy pickles) only tasted of vinegar
The muhammara and the samosa were the only flavorful dishes. Although the samosa were mostly dough with very little filling. The tond was very spicy so OK.
Our Seekh kebab bara was not delivered with the other foods. They forgot. It was very hard to get the attention of the server. I put myself through grad school waiting tables. After delivering food one should always give the diners the chance to try and then make sure...

Read moreThe service and vibe at Silkroad Utrecht was lovely. The staff were very friendly and attentive and also ready with recommendations. The portions of the food however were really small- for some dishes just a couple of bites! This means if you arrive with a bigger group of people you have to order many portions of the same dish- something to be aware of. Same with the desserts, saffron ice cream was great and portion was 2 small scoops, which was fine, but the baklava was just 1 bite! Lol.. also when you think of the Silkroad routes, you imagine a variety of countries but the menu selection came across as more geared towards just a couple of cuisines, would have been nice to have a wider variety. Definitely worth a visit but it’s not a place I...
