Delicious American Style Pancakes! My boyfriend and I visited MOAK Pancakes after being recommended to go by a friend. We decided to go to the MOAK Pancakes West as it was closer to where we were staying, there is also another one in Amsterdam City Centre. The interior of MOAK was nice and modern. The staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We were greeted and given menus and showed to where there was seating. We then took a seat on the table of our choice and after a few minutes we were greeted by a waitress to take our order. We ordered drinks first and then we ordered our food. To drink I had the Pear Juice and my boyfriend had the Grape Juice and a Coconut. To eat I ordered the Blue Magic Pancakes (but instead of blueberries I asked for Strawberries - essentially making it a Red Magic instead of Blue Magic) and I chose to add Bacon. My boyfriend ordered The Infamous from the MOAK Favourites section of the menu. It wasn’t long before our food came out and it looked very appealing. Unfortunately my order came out without the bacon so I informed one of the waiters about this and he apologised and advised us it would take about 4 minutes for the bacon to which we said was fine. I continued to eat my pancakes until the bacon arrived and luckily I had one left to enjoy once the bacon came out. The pancakes were well made and delicious. The fruit was fresh and their own maple syrup was delightful. The staff were very apologetic and I was impressed that they went above and beyond what they needed to in order to rectify the issue considering I didn’t even complain about it. I was very grateful for the amazing service received from the staff and overall I was really happy with the food too. I would definitely go back to MOAK again! I had some of the nicest American Pancakes there that I have ever had. A big thumbs up for me as a place to visit...
Read moreIn search of the perfect Tuesday-morning breakfast with a slight hangover we came across MOAK in Utrecht. We pulled the door open and entered the pinkish perimeters. Instead of me asking if they were open, I asked if they were awake. And yes, they were awake. Woke at MOAK.
Starting off with a ginger shot that made my soul leave my body (and then come back so we could tell the story), I continued my journey at this hip-hop pancake restaurant with a cappuccino, whilst my companion decided on an Americano (don’t judge him, he’s from ‘Murica). We still felt the burn from the spiced root elixer (also known as the ginger shot), but the coffee was good. Don’t let the menu fool you: even though they say they only serve oat milk, it’s a lie. For the ‘real’ woke moakers they serve ‘real’ cow milk, too. Phiew…
And then the pancakes came. I ordered the G.O.O.D. Morning and my sidekick ordered the Blue Magic Vegan (once again: don’t judge him, he’s American). And that’s where Woke at MOAK turned into Moan at Moak. We we moakning over the fluffy goodness served to us. Those pancakes are something else…
About the staff. We got welcomed by a lovely bubbly personality called Chui and even though she didn’t understand our hip-hop references, she noted them down like a champion. When our kindhearted waitress overheard it was my birthday, she offered me a glass of bubbly champagne. How can you refuse a glass of sparkling celebration liquid early in the morning? I mean — it’s 4 o’clock somewhere. We laughed and giggled, we feasted and partied and all of that at 9 in the morning.
Did we write this review so we could get a free pin? Maybe. Maybe not. One thing is certain, we became MOAKners that day. 10/10 would recommend.
Oh, and by the way, their toilet seats are heated. What...
Read moreWell, ehm… Soo we came here because it looked really good and it had good reviews. Then we received the pancakes… Apparently it was a build it yourself pancake? We ordered 1 salmon pancake and 1 other with chocolate. The one with chocolate was doable, but
Aside from the chocolate pancake – which was passable at best – the entire experience was a disaster. The one with salmon was absolutely horrendous. There was literally no space on the plate to even attempt assembling it. And even if there had been, it would’ve been an engineering nightmare. Everything slid off and mixed etc. We even looked at other pictures to see if others experienced the same, but no. Others were already made… The taste was mehh. Nothing special, be carefull with the honey, because too much ruines the whole dish.
For the price it was not worth it.
And then at the end when I wanted to pay, at the cash register there was an option to tip, however the waitress literally looked over my shoulder how much I gave her, so I felt even more pressured to give a tip. The option with “no tip” was really small somewhere in a corner.
Overall the experience was a mehh. Still 2 stars the fruit on the chocolate pancake...
