The worst place I have ever been. I reserved a table for 3 for the evening of 26th August. My wife, daughter and myself arrived in the place and ordered Halbes Hänchen (half chicken). Circa 5 minutes after receiving our order, waitress came back to us and told us there was no chicken as they run out and asked if we would like to order something else instead of chicken. We were not happy as we went there to have chicken but now compelled to pick another dish from the menu because we were so hungry. We both ordered goulash (beef stew). While we were having our dishes, my wife found a hair in hers half way down the meal! They said sorry and replaced her dish. After we were done, we paid the bill and I went to wc before we left. On the way back, I noticed that there was a chicken getting cooked in the cabinet. Then I asked the waitress, why she had told us chicken had run out even though it had not! She said to me that chicken is reserved for some special customers who visit there more often to have it, that's why they spared chicken for those customers. I said her that I had also reserved a table, but she said to me chicken also should have been reserved! I did not know that, because it was the very first time I had been there and there was no such an information in their website where I reserved our table.
The most important thing here is that they lied to us! If they had honestly explained the situation in the first place, we would have then either ordered something else or left the place without feeling disappointed because we would have already been aware of the situation. I have never faced such a disgraceful behaviour so far.
Another thing as important as above was that the restaurant manager was so aggressive and did whatever it takes to defend this shameful situation. She did not seem to be empathising by putting herself into the customer's shoes. After a long talk she only said "sorry" which did not solve our problem. They seem to think other customers are privileged and more important than those who are visiting the place for the first time.
Secondly, the hygiene conditions in the kitchen must be improved.
One of the most ordered meals in the menu running out in just 1.5 hours of service is the other ridiculous thing and shows how poorly the things are planned.
As a summary, I will never go to Kartoffel again, never ever, and I do not recommend this place because staff behaviour is unacceptable (disrespectful, dishonest, uncompromising) and you might be compelled to order something else if you do not reserve in advance what you would...
Read moreI had a great idea about this place, but it changed tonight. We were 4 friends eating and having a drink at the restaurant; one of us recently had a surgery related to diabetes and the only thing she can drink besides water is electrolyted drink without sugar WHICH THEY DONT SELL, the rest of us were CONSUMING and PAYING to be there. My friend had to go to the bathroom and left her drink in the table, suddenly, when one of the waiters came and saw it, he started acting very rudely saying it was “f4ck3d up” that she had drank it when they sell other stuff in there, we explained that we were consuming, but that she had a surgery but he still gave us the bill and told us to leave. His tone of voice was rude and straightforward mean, angry passive aggressive. "I'm not mad, I just give you the bill to go away. " ... that's what the waiter said. Just because a person in our group is sick and cannot consume there.
Furthermore, I must highlight that his attitude was this bad since we arrived to the restaurant, he had told us we couldn’t order anything AT ALL to eat, while we had noticed other people were ordering food… we had to ask another waiter to get a starter to eat. His face and personality in general was judgy and unkind, giving dirty looks. They had said he was the manager, but we are not 100% sure.
The place is nice but definitely the waiters can be mean and this is not a nice situation in general. We understand people must order there, but we were. They can at least be nice, and be kind with the way they manage things. If a group of people is consuming, and drinking, paying to be there, it is not ok to discriminate others when you don’t even sell what they can eat.

Read moreNice atmosphere, terrible service. We were sitting outside and nobody was caring about us. We saw waiters coming out, minding their business, and not even looking at us. We tried to grab attention, but nothing. I had to go ask for a menu at the door by myself, and then after it called another person that was cleaning a table next to us, otherwise she would have skipped us again. The food is nothing special or good, is acceptable and I was expecting that we would have to pay more for the location than the food, but we didn't expect such service. When the lady came by no good morning, no hello, no smile, nothing. A different person served the beer, the same result with the amount of pleasure. Food serving? Same. At least when we paid, a different guy, smiled and said goodbye, I couldn't believe it.
Maybe we have been unlucky, maybe all the nice people were serving inside, maybe they were all underpaid or not paid at all, or I don't know what else happened. When I went to the toilets I saw that the waiters inside were more friendly, so I don't really know.
A restaurant should be a nice experience all around, we are also paying for the service, I don't expect actors or love, but at least be kind to customers who are kind to you.
We wondered multiple times why we didn't sit a few tables further in the...
