Meat @ Valkenhof — Restaurant in Valkenburg aan de Geul

There were quite a few things wrong with this hotel, but I like to start with the things I liked: ||||The rooms were very clean and freshly redecorated. So fresh even, that some of the furniture still had it's price-tags on it. Hilarious.||||The view from the top floor is stunning. Especially at night with all the lights.||||There is free wifi and plenty of power outlets so you can hook up your laptop and recharge your tablet if needed.||||Now the bad stuff...||||There is no parking. The hotel is situated in a "pedestrian only" area and there is no way to even unload your bags at the front door. Best carry them from wherever you managed to park your car.||||If possible, ask not to be put in room 9: it is tiny. There isn't even room for a decent table or flat surface where you can place a make-up box, glass of water or a book. There is no closet space, except from a hanger which could barely hold the weight of my wintercoat. There wasn't even room for the customary bible (didn't really miss that) or the room service booklet (did miss that. We had no way of knowing when breakfast was or what time to check out). ||||Our friends stayed in room 7 and they did get a table with a room service booklet. However there was no phone number in it. The password to the wifi was in it. SO if we didn't have our friends stay in the room next door, we wouldn't have had wifi either and this would have been a 1/5... The bathroom of that room was not made for people who are not supermodel-size. My friend is pregnant and she could not get into the shower without hurting her belly. So maybe avoid room 7 as well.||||Apart from our room being so small (even the chairs in the room were made for prepubescent children), it was freezing. The heating did no work at all. Alas we only found that out around 11 p.m. There was no one left at the reception and no way to get it working (or get an extra blanket). The heating in the reception area was working just fine though, even if there was no one to enjoy it. It crossed my mind to just go sleep in the hall downstairs (at least it was warm), but we decided against it in the end. We thought we'd just snuggle up under the blanket... Only to find out that it wasn't one big blanket but two small ones. Why do that in a married couple's room? ||||As the night progressed we found out that the window let in the freezing air as well as the noises of the street outside. I instantly had a flash back of nights at college with the drunk frat-parties outside: loud music, drunk singing, the noises of a fight and eventually the sound of cops breaking up the fight. Ah, to feel 19 again... Priceless.||||Breakfast was very poor and not worth the extra 10 euro's p.p. we had to pay for it. I guess unlimited coffee has to be worth something. Especially after the night's symphony outside our window.||||Like in all my reviews I like to point out if a place is wheelchair friendly. This hotel is not in any way a place where you can go if you are in a wheelchair. There is no elevator and a whole lot of stairs before you even reach the...

Update :31-07-2025 Nu hier niet geslapen maar terras wat enorm gezellig is! Prima vriendelijk personeel, maar in de keuken is er iets veranderd! Was na hier verschillende keren te zijn geweest in Valkenburg altijd super! Beter kon het niet zijn. Betaalde de eerste dag 40 euro voor een tournedos wat tegenwoordig normaal is voor een stuk gegrild vlees. Maar was enorm taai en een pees erin. Deed niet moeilijk, dus dacht laat maar, we hadden een gezellige dag. Maar pepersaus? Uit een pakje (poeder met water). De 2e dag een grill spies gegeten met biefstuk/varkenshaas ui en paprika en pepersaus-friet. Na ontvangst gerecht biefstuk nog enorm rauw ipv medium en varkenshaas totaal rauw dus had niet te lang op de grill gelegen. Goed terug naar de keuken gestuurd bediening vertelde ja dit kan niet en bood excuses aan voor iets waar ze niets aan kunnen doen en kregen andere. Biefstuk was een schoenzool en varkenshaas was doorbakken. Incl de pepersaus uit een pakje en friet die al 3x gebakken was. Dus mijn honger en dat van mijn vrouw was over. Jammer ze hadden altijd een prima keuken maar waarschijnlijk een andere kok? Hoe moeilijk kan het zijn om 2 soorten vlees apart te garen op een grill en verse pepersaus te maken? Gewoon jammer! De tekst “ the best meat in town” kan je wel vergeten.Ik ben zelf kok geweest op een redelijk niveau maar niet kieskeurig. Dit spande wel de kroon. Ondanks de inzet en vriendelijkheid van het personeel geef ik toch 5 sterren. Maar ga vlug terug naar het oude concept want dit was stukken beter en gebruik geen poeder voor de saus maar gewoon op de oude manier met room. Dit zal je niet merken in de prijs, maar wel aan de reacties. En als kok bekijk je het vlees zeker de tournedos die voor 40 euro de deur uitgaat. Je moet er zelfs met een bot mes nog doorheen gaan! —————————————————— Eerste bezoek valkenhof: We hadden kamer 7 op de bovenste verdieping, foto's op de site kwamen niet bepaald overeen met de foto's. 2 nachten wakker gelegen van een draaiende dakventilator (koelcel) . We moesten met de ramen open slapen door de warmte. Het geluk hadden we ook dat er een aantal beschonken kerels boven sliepen, lachen gieren en brullen en sigarettenrook 2 nachten lang. Anderen hebben hier ook een melding van gemaakt na 2 nachten. Hard slaan met de deuren enz enz. dit de gehele nacht. Er is geen toezicht je kan komen en gaan. Wat betreft de parkeergelegenheid deze zou bij hotel Riche zijn, ging na inschrijving Valkenhof terug om te betalen voor 3 dagen en werd door de onvriendelijke mijnheer van Riche verzocht de parking te verlaten ik kon 600m verder gaan parkeren op Geulpark. Kosten 17 euro. De andere dag wat anders gezocht Warandeplein kosten na volgooien parkeermeter 17 euro!

Bij uitchecken dit alles verteld. Parkeergelegenheid niet geregeld enorm veel geluidoverlast omdat er geen controle is. Kamers bovenste verdieping moet je goed ter been zijn door de vele trappen die je moet klimmen.

Wat betreft het hotel zelf, Vriendelijke mensen, goed eten en de kamers zijn goed schoongemaakt. Een verbeterpunt geluidsoverlast en parkeergelegenheid en duidelijke omschrijving welke kamer je word...
