This is the first time I’ve felt I need to go back and rethink all of my 5-star reviews I’ve made in the past for other restaurants because Poppe has set a new bar for me. My wife and I ordered the 8-course menu while we were visiting with our 4-year old daughter. They right away did everything to make sure our daughter was taken care of and happy while we took our time to eat our lengthy meal. The chefs came out multiple times to interact with us all and the waitress was very knowledgeable. For dessert our daughter was allowed to “make her own” with one of the chefs. I will say, we were here on a Wednesday night so it was not very which may have allowed the staff to give us extra special attention but if it wasn’t for their hospitality I would still say the food was excellent and some of the best dishes we have ever had. One might expect to pay an extraordinary amount of money for this experience but when I looked at the bill (having been recommended a few wines and liquors without knowing the price I was a little concerned) I was surprised how low it was. Excellent place in an excellent location in Zwolle. Service is profesional, and very friendly. Food is very good, with fresh high quality ingredients and attention to detail that gives each dish a rounded flavour. With options for vegetarians on the menu which is always appreciated. And the place is cozy and beautiful which makes it an excellent choice for a dinner with good company. Wine list is the only thing I felt was not on the right level to make a 5 star recommendation. Just 3 choices of red, from the same region and not really remarkable. But still, it is definitely a place I will visit next time I'm in Zwolle and I recommend anyone to go... Great experience! Staff are lovely, efficient, sympathetic and willing to help. The building itself is very antique and beautiful. Either sitting in the terrace outside or in the saloon inside the service is very good. The food was perfect: I highly recommend the lamb. It was perfectly made and one of the best I ever ate! I was doing tourism in Zwolle but it felt like being in a place of my own city. The Poppe combine the best of two worlds: it is charming like a small local business but highly professional like a restaurant in a big city like Amsterdam.
