Went in around 4pm. It was quiet. Getting a drink, no problem. Getting a snack, no problem, the staff came to the table. Then it all went downhill. Chronically Understaffed. The server did not come back to our table but did serve others.waiting to pay for the snack, as no one bothered to come for our order just topped it off. ADDENDA: I checked my balances a couple of days later, and a sneaky credit card/ paywave surcharge was added! Nowhere did it say a surcharge is added onto cards. I know times are tough, but this is unacceptable no matter how small. Yes, it was a busy night later due to the rugby, but surely the management should have staff contingencies when this happens? TBH the wedges were overpriced at over $10 for a portion. More than a glass of house pinot gris. (Plus tax) Not in a hurry to go back, sadly. Have sent an email re surcharge, waiting to hear back... UPDATED:Went in tonight. So quiet, but still the good was not great. Yhe young Estonian waitress was lovely. It was her first night. Such a pity the kitchen let everything down. The Prawn pizza was not a prawn pizza. There were maybe 3 shrimps and one small prawn and a very laclustre pizza. Thankfully not my meal. The fettuccine was very average. I didn't finish it. At 28 and 29 dollars for each main, it was really not acceptable. The other two meals seemed ok. They were eaten. Honestly, I hate paying lots of hard earned cash for something that is at best mediocre. It was a very quiet evening and the whe thing should have been better. It wasn't the waitresses' fault. Management needs to get the quality control sorted our and stop cutting corners. Not...

I have a question for the owner: If your staff don't enjoy being there, why would a customer? Used to be one of our favourite places to go because of the atmosphere and super friendly staff, drove from West Auckland just to eat there each time. Went back there the other day to give it another chance after under cooked chicken/dismissive staff a couple months ago and was disappointed again. I don't know if it's changed ownership in the last year or what but it's slowly gone downhill from our first experience a few years ago; everything used to be so warm and inviting with staff that always had smiles and shared a laugh with their customers. Now you walk in and feel like an absolute burden. They started clearing plates away and asking if we wanted desert or not while some of us were still eating?? Some prices jumped close to $10 for the lower quality food. The meals just aren't consistent in quality to justify price increases. All I can positively say is the parking is always great and wait time was nonexistent so we got to eat and leave as soon as possible because we were so uncomfortable after...

Would’ve given 1 star if it wasn’t for the impeccable service.

The atmosphere is lovely, great decor, comfy seats and tables. Not too noisy, not too quiet. Great service, great front of house.

All the wait staff were amazing, the service is impeccable, but I couldn’t say the same about their food. My pasta was so over cooked and bland it tasted like mushed up baby food. For the price they’re asking, I would’ve at least expected decent food, not something that tastes like a failed attempt at cooking by a novice.

I feel so bad for the wait staff for having to hand out food of such quality. I would give them the benefit of the doubt, that it was a one time mistake, but my partner’s chicken taste like some weird concoction a novice cook threw together when they couldn’t be bothered following a recipe. That’s when I knew there was no point in asking them to fix my pasta, nothing good will come of it.

Absolutely would not return for food, maybe return for drinks? But I don’t know if I could trust them to fry up some chips and...

Speights Ale House Stonefields was a great dining experience! The atmosphere as we entered was very much sports bar but when we were seated around the corner from the bar/TV it was actually very quiet and comfortable to sit and eat. Service was bubbly, our order was taken quickly and the food came promptly. It definitely felt like we were being looked after. The food itself was tasty, and the menu had a wide range of options ranging from pub food to finer options. The drinks menu was the highlight, with the Speights range on tap (yum) and the option to choose between glass, pint or jug. The range of alternatives was also extensive so plenty of options for those less keen on a beer. Staff were very helpful and we had a lovely time. Will definitely be back for another brew soon!

A warm wooden cosy inside for the winter to a fresh sunny outdoor area for summer days, the great service and fantastic meals make for a wonderful setting for all your needs. Whether it's time for a cold one, a sit down meal with the family or time to get behind your favourite sports team, they've got you covered. From comfy bar seats, to a relaxing lounging area or a formal table. The Speights Ale House brings the pride of the South and missed it with the pride of Stonefields. Come round for some live music on a Sunday afternoon, test the grey matter with the Monday night quiz or sip away on your favourite drop on a nice sunny day. If you live locally it's a good excuse for a pit stop on your walkway around the neighbourhood.
