I have been to Madly Indian three times. The first two times the food and service were good, so I came back. The third time I visited, I was with my relatives and another couple who were celebrating a wedding anniversary. There were six of us and the restaurant was not busy. We all recieved our first drinks and mains promptly. After this the service stopped. We went to the counter and requested a second round of drinks. We waited for over an hour with our table covered in waterglasses, mango lassi glasses, plates and wine glasses. In the end I stacked the plates and returned them to the counter, still no-one came to serve us. Then I took the glasses back so we could converse more easily with others across the table. Still we waited. In the end we paid and left without ever having been offered the desert menu. We are all in our 60's and 70's, quiet, polite diners. My relatives are regular customers. It was inexplicable lack of service which let down a restaurant which usually...
Read moreExcellent service tonight on this early evening of August 1st, 2019. My partner and I had an early dinner and arrived as the only patrons but were soon attended to and politely served.
The meals are up to the standard of some of the best we've had - certainly not better than, though. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the bowl was sufficient enough to leave us with leftovers, as was my partner's vegetable korma.
This cream-based nutty korma was flavoursome, but we felt like it could have been a bit richer in spices; my Lamb Saag was dark and spicy, and the lamb was tender and juicy. The Paneer Kulcha was tasty as well.
The plates had some of the nicest presentation and there was even complimentary papadums with mango chutney while we ordered. Staff were always polite and friendly, but never overbearing. Interesting layout of rooms makes the seating spread-out and patrons are never jammed up close to...
Read moreGreat place to have Indian food if you are in Kerikeri area. We stopped a night there with my parents who wanted to have Indian food for dinner and we found Madly Indian through Google Maps. It's a nice place with parking in the front. The lady at reception was warm and explained us all the flavours and ingredients in different dishes on the menu. She also switched one of the naan with roti in the naan box on request. So very warm people overall.
The food tastes great. TBH, travelling around NZ except Auckland, we keep our expectations low but we were surprised with the flavours in curries. We asked for hot curries and they were recently hot. The naan breads were crispy on the top and soft on the inside. Lamb seekh kebabs were a let down. They were very tough and I expected them to be soft and tender. But everything else was perfect. Will definitely drop by again when we are...
