Oceans 68 Fish and Chips & Takeaways — Restaurant in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

What a revolting place this is. We arrived in Paihia around 6pm and decided to try out the local fish and chip shop. We paid $45 for three people.

The mussels were dry, the potato fritters literally inedible – we couldn’t bite through them. The best part was the fish, since it was of average quality but it was a half portion, small like everything else about this meal. We received enough chips for one person – I knew we were in trouble when my wife started chopping everything in half :-(

We finished our $45 fish and chips meal and were hungry. We chopped up apples we had left over from our drive up and went to bed wondering if the rest of our stay at Paihia would be like this.

The next night we went to Jimmys Rib Shack, one of our team grabbed the Fish and Chips meal – she received more on her single serve plate than the entire meal from Vinnies Takeaway the night before.

We stopped over for dinner after checking in. The scent of the fish and chips drew us and personally, we were always looking out for good fish and chips and Vinnies did not disappoint. The owner was working without any assistance but he was courteous and patient while we were trying to decide. The wait was but for a while and we were greeted with a wide smile. The food was nice and hot. It did not take too long for the family to finish the food - a testament to the quality. As it was a take away shop, there were no toilets available. Seeing that the kids were in need to use the toilet, the owner was most kind to bring us personally to a toilet - what service. This is a great spot for fish and chips at Paihia - do visit if you are in the area. Located from the main street and across the road from the Tourist info centre, it would be easy to find and a short walk to the nearby...

Terrible experience! Took eons to get a very basic order. When it finally arrived, I had waited so long, I did not have time to eat it. Told them to keep it & give it to someone else. Lost the money I paid for it but when I saw it, I was not going to eat that garbage. Looked terrible…..”&”…..frozen chips, not fresh cut chips at a dedicated fish & chip shop! VERY POOR take away restaurant & terrible experience. Avoid this place & look elsewhere! “Insult to anybody that likes good Fish & Chips!” The staff should apologize to the clientele in advance for what they are about to serve them & the ridiculous amount of time it is going to take to serve them.
