Tipsy Oyster is truely a hidden gem. Had dinner for 2 from the tapas and sides menu + oysters (of course) and we left being very much satisfied. Edit: came back the following night for Wagyu burger, cocktails, oysters and a Wagyu with truffle oil infused mash tapas dish. It seems you can't miss-order. Everything is good.
The menu changes monthly according to season & inspiration. We were lucky enough to be served by the head chef and so got some neat recommendations and background on his inspiration. The local favourite is the Duck Pancakes (crepe). It can't easily be described but they can't cycle or out of the menu otherwise the locals complain - it is a must try.
A lot of thought has been put into the cocktail menu. There are many pages of menu dedicated to cocktails. They specialise in Tequila.
Everything on the menu seemed delicious. I saw some others order a main which looked decent. The only disappointment was the creme brulee was not torched so did not have the crispy skin but it...
Read moreWhen I first came here I immediately wanted to leave a 5 star review for how delicious the food was and also great ambiance I love the music they play and all the colors. Unfortunately each time I came back they closed multiple hours earlier than their stated closing time which is messed up especially when I went very out of my way to arrive at this specific place so I can watch the WORLD CUP but instead of acknowledging the world cup and acknowledging their stated closing time they close multiple hours before their stated closing time which is wrong. They must change their closing time so they don't have people like me going out of their way for nothing - it also bothered me how the waiter made it seem like fries or salad were included in a meal then I find out after the bill that it's not but he made it seem that way, and that entire bill I regret because I only ate there to watch the world cup game and I didn't even get to see the world cup game since they close many multiple...
Read moreQuite expensive. "Tapas" are in the pricerange of a full meal (same price as other restaurant at the seaside in paihia) but size is too small for a food if you are hungry. For me tapas have to be cheaper so that you can order several one to share or bigger in size and not called tapas. But the food is really good.
Really strange was the service as they ask you if you want to order something in an extrem frequency. For me it was way to much as I was ask if I want to order something while going to the toilet, again as soon as I came back and sit down at the table (I still had a halffull drink then, which I ordered max 15 min before). There is a diffrenece between beeing attentiv or beeing almost pushy trying to sell more drinks etc. I felt more like a walking cash opportunity than a customer.
The waiters didn't seem to be unfriendly or rude itself but just strangly trained to try to push people to make another order while they give you your...
