Columbus Coffee — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

This afternoon (15/2/23), I and 2 family members arrived at Columbus Coffee in Bethlehem village between 2:45-2:50pm. When I placed our order of coffees at the counter, the young woman who served me advised me the coffee would be served in takeaway cups as they would be closing in 13minutes. I queried this with her, as the advertised closing time for this establishment is 3:30pm. She told me they were closing early as it was very quiet. This was despite there being other patrons inside the cafe and also at tables outside the cafe at that time. She told me we could sit at one of the tables outside if we wanted to take our time drinking our coffee. Sure enough, the cafe was closed by 3pm with 3 tables outside the cafe stilln occupied by paying customers. This is dreadful service, particularly when the hospitality industry have been publicly lamenting the ongoing impact from covid on their businesses in recent times. Also where would we be if every business, that had advertised operating hours, just closed when they felt like it? I have been a loyal customer of the Columbus Coffee chain in recent years, but will definitely give this particular cafe a wide...

This is the strangest review I have ever written. I stood at the counter waiting to be served with several staff walking backwards and forwards past me, no acknowledgment of me waiting. Then a young female staff member, stood tall and straight and said "Kiora" with an attitude I was simply stunned about. Her whole demeanor was strange. I asked for a scone to take away, then I was asked if I wanted coffee. I said, no, just the scone to take away. Then asked if I wanted it heated and butter, no just the scone please. Then I was asked to take a seat!, What, to wait for a takeaway scone???? I have never ever been so offended by the service in any store in my life, seriously get some help! I know some would say, well what did she do wrong. Simply the weirdest way of serving customers I have ever experienced. It is not what she said, but how it was conveyed. I guess the closest you could describe, would be a badly programmed robot doing the service. I can't describe it any other way. We are moving to the area, but will bypass this...

Thanks so much Columbus Coffee, my wife and I had an amazing Columbus breakfast this morning 23.01.2022 table 20. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, not to mention how the 3 of them as a team managed to keep working in a circle, from ordering at the counter to making coffees, delivering food to tables and returning with used dishes back to the kitchen. It was amazing to see. Huge shout out to the chef for a well cooked breakfast consisting of 2 fried eggs, very scrummie hash brown, good size half tomato grilled to perfection, nicely done portibilo mushrooms 🍄, breakfast sausages lovely flavored may I add, bacon rashes just Devine and last but not least (sorry can't remember the name of the toast we had) . Thanks for such awesome breakfast ...
