Detour Bar, Lounge And Restaurant — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

Great atmosphere, nice surroundings and a pretty good menu, that was taken to the next level with the Specials of the Day. I went for the ribs and the wife had the Carbonara. When I got the ribs the portion I got compared to what another table got seemed really small, however, despite the portion size it was the perfect amount for me - the ribs were tender and with just a gentle amount of coaxing came away from the bone, having the sauce in a bowl with the meal was a nice touch instead of being smothered all over it on arrival. The chips were hot nd crispy/crunchy which was a pleasant surprise and the salad to go with it was divine. The Carbonara has a strong cheese hit and we couldn't work out what it was but it was full of flavor and with plenty of sauce to go with it was a nice meal, it was also a huge portion size which I wasn't expecting. Well done DB on the meals. The only let down was it took some time for the meals to come out and I noticed that other tables that arrived after us were getting their meals first, however, we were part of a 12-14 person table so understandably their was going to be a delay but a definite 4.75 stars with only a quarter star off for the delay. Desert was nice, we had the Cream Puffs with ice cream and the cheesecake with fruit and both were a very nice way to finish off the meal. I would definitely go back again and perhaps try either the steak or the Lamb rack as they both looked good as others had ordered them. We were recommended to come to this restaurant. We turned up at 5.30pm (tables were available) we were told we couldn’t be seated as fully booked. Even though we said we were after a drink first noting was suggested. There were 3 tables out on the verandah ( undercover). We asked if we could sit there and she said she wouldn’t serve food there sorry and said goodbye. We walked out then thought hold on we should ask if we can just have a drink. She said yes just a drink. We asked if we could go on the wait list ( even though, tables available) she said oh Shane you can’t stay here our food is incredible) she said she wouldn’t serve let us know when a table became available. We tried to call the restaurant while out on the verandah to ask to book as well. No answer multiple times. She said next time we order our cocktails an hour later ( tables still available) that no they were still fully booked and would let us know. 2 hours later 6 tables never filled and after spending $60 later we left. Not good...

This place has a beautiful warm atmosphere and friendly staff.

My table was right in front of an open fire set at the front of the restaurant.

The service was great, staff were very welcoming, politely, and helpful, asking me if needed help as I came into the dining area so I just quickly ordered at the bar as I already new what I wanted to try.

My niece and sister were already seated at what I considered to be the best table in the restaurant. When they saw me both of them followed suit and came to the bar to order too for quicker service.
