Niko Niko Sushi — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

Always enjoy the Karaage Chicken Bento (and Miso) from here. Nice combination of food, generous with wasabi (gotta have if for that primo wasabi chicken flavour). I have tried a bunch of their single sushi as well and have enjoyed it all. The place has fairly average aesthetics—it's not going to blow up your Instagram—but is spacious and clean, and the staff are quick to remove finished meals and wipe down tables. The staff themselves are a mixed experience; they are never rude, and I have never had issues, but they don't always smile and engage with customers (I've worked in hospitality myself, so I know the pain of dealing with the general public all day. Pretty good sushi in downtown Whakatane for reasonable prices. You can pick from pre-made selection of sushi, rolls and other deep fried treats or made-to-order stuff from the menu which includes rolls, hot food & noodles. The rolls go for $11-14 and are pretty sizeable - one would feed all but the hungriest pair of people. There are takeaway trays for Wasabi, ginger & tiny bottles of soy sauce if you're getting food to eat at home. Sushi/sashimi purists may turn their noses up as the rolls, etc aren't traditional and have their own...

Hands down, 110% the best place in the eastern bay of plenty for Sushi, ramen and everything else in between. Both FOH & BOH staff are amazing at what they do, delivering authentic smiles to match their service.

I do, highly recommend their tofu ramen, it honestly took me back, to, the time I had spent in Inner Mongolia a few years back now, fresh, flavoursome, most of all, Authentic 😁
