Indian Food Court — Restaurant in Canterbury

Ordered delivery and was disappointed with the time it took. On the website before placing the order it said delivery in 5-10 minutes. After placing the order the confirmation said 20 minutes. I called at 30 minutes and was told it was coming, and then I called again at 43 minutes, where I was told the issue was traffic - at 8pm, in Kaiapoi. It's a 4 minute drive? It took 48 minutes from the time of ordering, to be delivered. It wasn't a huge order either. It threw a spanner in our evening plans and I wish they had said how long it might be when I called the first time instead of saying that the driver was out delivering it, because then I could have done other parts of our baby's bedtime routine, instead of thinking that it was going to arrive any second. Food good, portion just a bit small for the price. But I guess it’s getting normal to reduce portions across the border. Naan could be less doughy. A strange think happened with me though, I paid using payWave and allegedly the transaction didn’t go through according to them. Under my wallet the name was Indian Food. After paying the second time with pin, the transaction went through, now with name Indian Food Court. How funny would be if they have to system running at the same time?! Not sure. But after 2 days of waiting for the transaction to be processed, calling the bank and the restaurant, I had to go back to the store to prove the transaction was processed to get my refund. Surprisingly delicious! When we arrived and saw the look from the outside and the simple setting inside our expectations were not very high.

Don’t let your eyes deceive you, this place does absolutely lovely food. The restaurant is more a takeaway vibe and is a little cold. We liked the casual dining and it doesn’t need to be fancy when the food is great.

The owners passion and pride shines through in the flavors and service. Honest open communication around the dishes if you’re unsure what to go for just ask.

Tandoori Dumplings were everything we hoped they would be! Only thing that would make it better is an Indian dipping sauce instead of mayonnaise.
