After close to two weeks of travelling in NZ, I really missed spicy food, so I was very happy to find this restaurant. We ordered the tom yam seafood soup ($17), stir-fried basil chili pork ($21.50), roasted duck red curry ($21.50) and garlic stir-fried vegetables ($18.50). “Thai Hot” is a legit level of spiciness here, and anything with that level of spiciness reminds me of the Thai food I have at home and in Thailand. The food here is fresh and delicious and tastes authentically Thai, and service is great as well.

Had take out, can highly recommend this restaurant. Ordered online super easy and fast. Absolutely loved our meal. Chicken satay sticks 😋 curry puffs with sweet chilli sauce 😋 and Kanniga's peanut sauce with beef 😋. Can specify what meat or vegetarian. 😋😋😋😋😋Have been back and eaten in a few times now, still delicious food.

Wow! We've lived in Kaiapoi two years but don't often eat out, so took the opportunity to visit with friends. Very impressed! Fabulous, friendly staff, lovely relaxing atmosphere, and the food was incredible 👌 The pineapple friend rice with pork belly is out of this world. Thanks team, we shall definitely be back!

I’ve been coming to Kanniga Thai Restaurant for a long time now, and it truly never disappoints. Every visit feels just as welcoming and enjoyable as the last. The staff are consistently lovely, warm, attentive, and always happy to see you. They remember regulars and treat you like family, which adds such a personal and genuine touch to the experience.

One dish I keep going back for is the chicken massaman curry. It’s absolutely perfect every time, tender chicken, soft potatoes, just the right amount of spice, and a beautifully balanced sauce that’s rich in flavour without being too heavy. It’s comforting, satisfying, and full of depth. I’ve tried massaman at other places, but Kanniga’s is unmatched.

The portion sizes are always generous, which I really appreciate. You get great value for money, and everything is clearly made fresh. Whether it’s a curry, stir-fry, or entrée, the food is always vibrant, well-prepared, and delicious. I’ve brought friends and family here too, and everyone leaves impressed.

What really sets Kanniga apart is the service. The team is attentive without being overbearing, food arrives promptly, and they’re always happy to accommodate any requests. It’s just a smooth, relaxed experience every single time.

Kanniga Thai has become one of my absolute go to spots, reliable, friendly, and consistently excellent. If you haven’t tried the chicken massaman yet, you’re...

We left work in Christchurch with high hopes for freshly caught fish from the Waimak river mouth, we didn’t catch any…. Cold and feeling sorry for ourselves we did a lap of mainstream kaipoi in search of some soul warming food and settled for Kanninga Thai restaurant.

Entering this Thai restaurant was like being greeted by your grandparents after not seeing them for a year, welcoming and friendly. Credit to the staff, we weren’t the easiest of customers, fuelled with lots of questions and confusion around the Thai cuisine, the staff were very patient and willing to solve the menus mystery’s. After much deliberation we settled for the basic option of pad Thai however was greatly satisfied with the outcome. Ps. Sorry for interrupting the chefs dinner 🙌🫶

We are regular visitors to the restaurant and it absolutely lives up to the hype! From start to finish, the experience is always fantastic.

The restaurant itself is warm and inviting, with a lovely, authentic atmosphere. The flavors are so fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The food is rich and creamy with just the right amount of spice, and traditional Thai dishes are tangy, sweet, and packed with flavor.

The service is always top-notch. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Portion sizes are very generous, offering great value for money.

Without a doubt, this is the best Thai food in North Canterbury. We can't wait to come back and work our way through the rest of the menu. Highly, highly...
