Change of ownership. The quality of the signature deep fried, the batter of mushroom was PREMIUM. Until today, Monday night, I am the only one of the 2 customers. The new Chinese boy could focus in taking right phone order neither could be trusted to manage deep fried station. He only gave me 2 forks with my purchase of 1 of Fried Tofu, $15, 1 of Roast Pork rice $16 1 of Fried Chicken cutlet $6 , 1/3 of it was cold compared to the other half of the piece. 1 of Fried Mush room $10 TOTAL I spent $46 and this attendant only gave me 2 spoons while I requested for 3. Captain Ben reluctant to give away box to put together all these items.
Quality of the deep fried food plummeted, reluctantly to provide necessities for take away meals just made more unbearable.
Did I mention that I was over charged by the same attendant, he went grumpy after I pointed out the amount he asked for was incorrect. And funny thing was he did not bother to express any sorta of acocuntability, Instead just staring at me! I also saw another European Kiwi male annoyedly repeat what he said as this attendant could not understand what he said.
I WILL NOT waste my money and time to go to an eatery where customers are not well looked after. Sorry Captain Ben, you done it wrongly and nothing was not like...
Read moreThis is a well-established business located near the University of Canterbury and is next to Foo San restaurant. The food is reasonably priced and comes in a large portion size. The prices vary from $10 to $12 for the rice and noodle dishes. 👍 The rice dish always come with a fried egg and Chinese vegetable + the meat of your choosing. The taste? Yummy and delicious. 😋 The staff is friendly, always smiling and helpful. I can't read menu written with Chinese characters but the staff is more than happy to explain and suggest some of the dishes based on your liking (i.e. taste, meat, spiciness...etc.) Plenty of dishes to choose from rice dishes to noodle dishes to burgers🍔 and, fish and chips + soft drinks. There is no dining area; strictly take away only. They take phone orders and the food will be ready in no time (well, about 10 minutes waiting time, depending on how many dishes you ordered). They accept Eftpos + cash, there is no credit card option (one of the two downsides). The other downside is car parking; not easy to find a car park (limited parking!). I've bought many dishes from Captain Ben's over the years and the food is consistently delicious. You have to try it yourself to find it out!

Read moreThis is my first year in CHCH, very be careful for where I get Chinese food as I'm very picky, Capt.Ben was recommended by my class mate. After I tried several Chinese restaurant and food joints in CHCH, I have to say, this takeaway can earn a place in anywhere, I ordered a Spicy Chicken on fried rice, firstly it was fast cooking, almost no waiting time compared to most Chinese, it's reasonalble cheaper and fully loaded, it was heavy and hot, by the time I got home with the food, I still cannot hold in my hand for too long, and it was YUMMY, if I ever gonna stay home and too lazy to cook, this is my fix. And owner also sponsor the local boy's footy team! Only a person with great heart can cook this good! Capt.Ben is Takeaway Master!!! PS. This is a Chinese Takeaway, it will be oil and meat, go get some salad if you...
