Coffee Culture Bush Inn — Restaurant in Christchurch

Mixed feelings! Nice food, not terribly "hot" hot drinks, and a questionable hygiene practice observed.

My maple and apple bun was really lovely (it wasn't shown in the cabinet, so it pays to ask as there were muffins, scrolls etc also kept at the back). Indoor and outdoor seating options, nice atmosphere...

My hot chocolate was warm enough to enjoy, but my friend's tea was lukewarm in the pot on arrival. Warmer the second time (though they were going to microwave the pot and tea bag for her rather than replace 🤨).

The thing that dropped the star rating for me though was the way butter is dealt with here! It's cut into pieces and kept in water behind the counter, then served with fingers (not tongs etc) for each customer. I almost didn't believe my friend when she explained what she'd seen, but when I ordered my food and the butter arrived with a fingerprint and covered in a decent layer of dust and grime from the surface of the water, I just couldn't bring myself to use it.

Food was nice, but staff using fingers and a tray of butter with grime in the water (maybe from staff fingers?) was...

UNI STUDENTS DONT GO, was told to leave for using my computer while having and coffee and a meal. There were many other older customers using there computers to and was targeted because 'we are bad for business' spent $20 on a meal and drink was there for around an hour and the owner came in to remove us. What else can you expect when you are located close to a uni and businesses around you cater to uni students. I would understand if we were not paying customers, but as we purchased food. Maybe a policy needs to be put in place on your doors that states...

Several months ago we had a bad experience at Bush Inn Coffee Culture and decided not to go back. We changed our minds because the location is convenient for work. Today we had an equally bad experience - firstly the wrong bagel were prepared, then it took a very long time to get what we actually ordered. When our bagels came they were toasted black (we had asked for them to be well done, but this was ridiculous) and they were soggy inside - YUK! We will never go to Bush Inn Coffee Culture again.
