Renee’s Kitchen — Restaurant in Christchurch

Saw it on social medial so drove here to give a try. Cute little cart, but my impression is they specialise in bakery, dessert and iced drinks instead of hot beverages.

Not much bakery options left when I arrived so I went for matcha latte. Unfortunately its blend, milk is badly steamed for a “cafe” standard. I wouldn’t complain if I get it from a gas station or mcd for this quality. Talked to owner on the spot with genuine advice and she is happy to give a refund.

But what confused me was , the owner told me this is how a matcha latte would look like, it just doesn’t fit my preference, which, as a heavy matcha lover who almost drink everyday, I do not agree, so I went to the cafe next door and had a really flavourful one, nicely steamed milk foam, larger size for the same price.

Might try their bakery and dessert next time. Hopefully the hot beverages will be better in the future....

🍓: The hype is real people. We got something savoury, sweet and of course matcha and everything was delicious! Their matcha is earthy and strong, but was mixed deliciously with vanilla for a nice sweet touch. And their baked treats are done to perfection.

✨️: Renee is an absolute sweetheart! As well as the rest of her family. We love a family run business, as these always feel the most genuine when it comes to service and quality. There is a cute wee set up to sit with your goodies, but we'd definitely recommend bringing water, sun hats, and sunscreen, especially if you're needing to wait in line.

Edit: my friend who ordered the strawberry matcha could not taste any matcha. The response I received makes me more hesitant to come back here I came here after seeing reviews of their matcha on tiktok, and I was really excited to try it. However it was quite a let down, I ordered the sea salt coconut matcha and the matcha flavour was lost and overpowered by the coconut. It’s sad because I really wanted to like this but I just couldn’t. But I ordered the matcha pretzel and wow, it was really good and had that strong matcha flavour that I really like.
