4th January 2019 - This is a Shanghainese restaurant that is located at the Bush Inn Centre site, next to the Lone Star. There are other eateries to choose from at this site and this restaurant is located next to the Waimairi Road entrance.
Anyway, the interior layout is well set up with multiple tables and chairs. The place is well-lit and it feels kinda cosy. The wall is decorated with the Chinese Cultural Revolution flyers and lanterns, as to create a nostalgic feel.
The menu is very straightforward with English wordings. It is not overwhelming (which is a good thing) with choices but rather nicely balanced. The drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are on a separate same menu.
They use free range pork, chicken and beef (from Peter Timb butchery) as their main ingredients.
We ordered Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (5 dumplings stuffed with minced pork and chicken stock). Let me say this, these dumplings are delicious and I highly recommend to order it.
Now, we ordered two main dishes; Shanghai wonton soup and Sian-Xian noodle soup. Both dishes have its distinct taste and flavour, and both broths/ soups are tasty. However, there are 6 pieces of wonton in a large bowl, which was slightly disappointing as I was expecting around 10 pieces.
I had the Sian-Xian noodle soup and I must say, the taste was quite good after mixing all the ingredients. It was delicious and flavoursome. This noodle dish came with 4 prawns/ large shrimps, pork slices, mushroom slices, a bit of spring onion slices and small diced green + red capsicums.
Overall, it was a good experience from this restaurant.
This is a child-friendly restaurant.
This is a licensed (🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺) eatery and not a BYO. There is no outdoor dining area.
There is onsite parking 🅿.
They accept cash and EFTPOS including credit card payments (Paywave payments are not available, for those who want to know). You need to spend at least NZD$30 to be able to pay by credit card.
Would I go back? Yes 😀. Well worth a try and you will not be disappointed. Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. It was yummy 😋. Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Relax and cosy. Price: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Slightly higher pricing compared to other Chinese restaurants in Christchurch. Customer service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. ...
Read moreI'd had a hankering for noodles and was heading towards Noodle Station when I stumbled past this place, it looked nice, bright, clean with soft ode to Chinese decor in a roughly modern style (not that it was important for takeaways, but I could imagine being happy enough to eat here) so I went for it. I was the only customer. Service: I was met with a smiling, polite Chinese lady. She took order, I paid. I guess you could summarize service as transactional but satisfactory.
Menu options looked great although the numbers next to the dish descriptions were a tad off putting - being expensive for my poor takeaway budget. So I ordered something basic, Beef Shanghai Noddle $17.50. Took them about 15 minutes to produce (which is probably about right).
Got it home, it was still very warm, so that was good, but there was not a lot of it...I mean they could have squeezed more in the container - but it mounded upon my small dinner plate satisfactorily, and I'm a small person so it filled my needs...just. A bigger person might want to order something else with it and I should have stopped to eat lunch today!
The dish came with strips of beef, some egg and a good sprinkling of cabbage and I think there was some spring onion* (*but don't hold me to it).
Everything had a pleasant BBQ flavor without being too over powering, and the noodles clean, only slightly oily, and under salted (which is always a good thing), needed a bit of taste added, which is why I have a collection of sauces at home.
Overall, felt pretty happy with it and would be prepared to venture back...
Read moreCan't find words to describe how delicious the steamed dumplings are here in the Shanghai Street Dumplings house!!!! The food was extremely fresh and the taste was authentically good!!!! The lady boss was so friendly and she had a lot of regular customers to go there everyday. She kindly asked us that how come she had never seen us before and we told her that we were just taking vacation here for short time. She told us to ensure to come back visit her more often from now on and we told her we definitely would.
Unlike the owner of "You Hanoi Me", Mr. Jason Whitelaw, he was ignorant and ridiculously unprofessional! We posted a negative review about his restaurant and the rude service of the receptionist on Google. Just because he did not like to see the neggativeness so he replied us to say we were "uneducated and immature" since we voiced out the fact on Google?!
We love this restaurant and for sure, we will come back to visit the lady boss and her...
