The Naked Baker — Restaurant in Christchurch

We used to enjoy coming here for weekend pies and slices but the quality of the food has meant we will not be returning again. My husband had the steak, bacon & cheese pie which was average. My mushroom and mushroom pie was horrible. It was full of gristle, minimal meat and very few slices of mushroom. It tasted odd. The sausage rolls were ok but certainly nothing like they used to be and they felt like cheap meat.

The other weird aspect to the Naked Baker is the not so subtle sexual overtones in some of the products (the candles they’re now selling) and signage. The tip jar was away this time but does say “just put the tip in. It’ll feel nice” and the candles on display at children’s eye levels were nothing short of just crass and disgusting. It’s not even remotely clever and I’m not easily offended.

The combination of that and the very average food means we will go elsewhere from now on. Very disappointing and not the first time we’ve come away...

Extremely disappointed at their lack of vegetarian options. At 3 o'clock the only option left to me was an overcooked frittata that had a suspicious amount of herbs in it, probably to try and cover the lacking variety of ingredients. (Was it really just bits of potato, egg, herbs, herbs and herbs?)

I have to wonder at bakeries. There's a disturbing trend of a lack of vegetarian food. I feel like I'm being prejudiced against. Do they only buy a few that sell early to the vegetarians lucky enough to get there early or are they that popular that by 3 o'clock they have all sold out? If it's the latter, then knowing they sell so well, why don't they order/make more? Other people can choose to buy a vegetarian bun/sandwich but a vegetarian can't choose to buy one...

Would be better if everything had prices, wanted to know the price of a few things before buying which got the server a bit flustered, unsure if she was new or not, also think i was overcharged but wasn't given a receipt unfortunately. Asked for Cracked pepper pie and she grabbed the wrong one so also had to correct her, easy mistake though! It was pretty good, sausage roll was very dry and crumbly, mince n cheese + relish pie was okay, the big hunk of semi melted cheese was a bit weird. 3 pack of Cupcakes were a hit, the Ham cheese sandwich was just a sandwich, had a "cup of joy" lemon cake thing and i was a bit concerned as it was out of the fridge but the top of it was dusty, and had a long best before which threw me off a bit as i thought it was a...
