Went for dinner on a very busy Friday night. Counter is setup in a very strange and awkward style so that you have to stand with the people in line for their meals halfway down the restaurant. No idea who is first in line and who is in the other line waiting for food.... And no direction from the staff. Finally get a table only to be herded and shuffled with the other cattle to the feeding troughs! People on all surrounds were seriously overloading loading the small plates like refugees in a desperate rush for survival! By the time I realized why (Its an everlasting line that just keeps going forever) it was too late! And we just couldn't bring ourselves to stand in the feeding queue again for an eternity to go back for seconds, so left with grumbling tummy's looking for somewhere to enter back into civilized society. To be fair - All you can eat style restaurants will attract those who need to satisfy their excesses, so it was ultimately our own fault for not walking out before we paid. The food was good and well cooked, but unless you are accustomed to swimming with the sharks during a feeding frenzy, then i suggest you...
Read moreThe service was fantastic, as soon as you had finished with your plate or had finished the water they were on to it straight away. There was a good selection of food however there was no signs or information on what you were meant to do or how things worked. There was also no suggestions on what sauces went best with what food etc it was very much a guessing game. I found the food quite oily which ultimately took over the other flavours . Half way through the meal a large group of school kids with their parents and teachers arrived for dinner, they were extremely loud and with the large volume of people it took a lot longer to get your food. While going to the bathroom a group of girls came in and were continually banging on the stall door while yelling and even trying to look under the door aswell. Over all I found the restaurant pretty average but it was the children who made the experience unpleasant, regardless of that I probably wouldn't...
Read moreFeeling hungry? Gengys is not the place for you. We were there for well over an hour, of which many of the main food items remained totally out of site. Fries and rice? Empty. All the dessert items? Empty. Just as the food, the night was totally devoid of cutlery and plates. The occasional rare fork or bowl (used for raw meat) aside. Screaming children and the occasional waft of harsh detergents at high end prices. Other patrons were using their fingers to test the flavoured oil and others were eating the raw vegetables out of their containers. This restaurants hygiene is as lacking as it's food and eating utensils. Smokers huddle around the front door adding to the unique odor of Gengys. There are many places to eat in the Hamilton CBD that aren't gengys. For your own sanity, pick...
