I have ordered from ambula around 4 times now. First time I ordered chicken and prawn kothu. Chicken kothu was good but didnt have a lot of chicken pieces. But prawn kothu was so salty and had the prawn shells and stuff. Didn't like the prawn kothu at all.
Next time we ordered rice and curry. It was good. Spicy and a bit too salty as well. They had few authentic curries which you cant find in other places which is really good. The rice and curry portions are really good. Too much salt is my problem and if they could have like a spice level then that would be good like others do.
The other thing is that the rice and curry is so dry. There's hardly any gravy. They give us two chicken pieces which is so dry with no gravy.
I have tried to order more but they dont have a lot of varieties.. they dont even have drinks when I asked them which is a bit disappointing. It would be nice if the staffs can be more friendly and let us know what options...
Read moreToday I ordered one serving of devilled chicken fried rice and a serving of rice and curry from Ambula. Both the serving were inedible.
Chicken fried rice was really dry and rice was half cooked. Further it was so greasy that you can see oil has deposited in the bottom of the container. Further, devilled chicken was so hard, dry and overcooked.
Rice and curry serving was worse than Chicken fried rice we just threw it away. For sure, Rice and curry was straight out of a freezer and then warmed up in a microwave. It tasted terrible. Specially the chicken curry, it was just old chicken pieces boiled in hot water and chilli powder. What a waste of money.

Read moreI recently had dinner at Ambula and I was really impressed with the experience. I ordered their kotthu rotti last week, and the portion size was generous, making it great value for money. The flavor was delicious, and the rotti was cooked well with a nice mix of spices and ingredients.
While I requested the dish to be spicy, it was a bit on the sweeter side, which was a minor difference from what I expected. However, the overall taste was still very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
The atmosphere at Ambula is cozy, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan food in Auckland. I’ll be back to try more of their...
