ChickHEN Republic Mount Wellington — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

We have tried a variety of food from here such as lamb and chicken on rice, mixed Souvlaki/Chilli on rice, Tandoori chicken, spicy fried chicken, Kebab wraps, potato chips, bread rolls, potato and gravy...etc. And all of them were delicious.

Their spicy fried chicken is a big hit in our household. It is crunchy outside and tender inside. Perfect amount of seasoning. Never comes with soggy exterior or undercooked interior. Now, we do not go to the KFC that is 2 mins away from our home and drive past to Chickhen republic instead. Chilli and Souvlaki meat on rice are very yummy, too. Not too spicy but perfectly seasoned. Tandoori chicken was a HUGE hit, too. Good size whole leg pieces seasoned perfectly. So VERY juicy and tender inside but not undercooked. The exterior is well grilled and overall taste amazing. Kebab wraps were a dissapointment for me as the lamb in it was cubed meat. I do not know whether it is real lamb or not but I am sensitive to food textures and I HATED its soy meat like texture and could not eat it. Hubby didn't mind.

What I love about this place the most is that their food have never given me stomachaches. As a person with a sensitive tummy, I easily get stomach issues. I always have stomachaches after eating at KFC Panmure or Tandoori chicken from everywhere (so many places from all over Auckland) else I have tried.

I can only mention one negative to this place. That is their food preparation takes longer than expected. I am guessing because they always want to deliver the perfectly seasoned and prepared food. Unfortunately, meat seasoning takes time and have no short cuts. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The first time we ordered Tandoori chicken, it was frustrating waiting for the Tandoori chicken that we ordered to be picked up at 4.10pm only to be told that it is going to be late. But they offered to deliver it and was delivered around 7.45pm along with a free chippie. It was a very impatient wait, but once it was here the food was so delicious, it was so totally worth the wait. So now we call them and ask or order ahead to give them time to prepare the food.

I love this place and am a regular ever since I decided to try this place when I saw that they did spicy fried chicken and they were amazing and better than KFC👏. Me and my sister loved our dine in experience on Tuesday. They literally have the best chicken in my opinion. Why do I think it's the best? It's because it's super crunchy , cooked to order and you could choose to have them spicy or normal. Fries are also crunchy, hot and well seasoned. The coleslaw is a must try, it's better than KFC's coleslaw.

Since they cook to order, it takes roughly around 20 minutes to make your order. But it's worth the wait...what I do is order via phone before picking it up so that it's ready once I get there...

The owner/manager ONLY seems like a very hardworking man and wants his customers to have a great experience with them. He's always nice to us and we could tell he works hard at the back when cooking...the other guy seems new.

Also try their ice cream , I love the their...

Food is average but the service is terrible. They choose their days when you can order online.

Did an order through their website - they took the money but did not deliver anything. Kept calling to get a refund but kept getting told ‘you need to speak to the manager’ who surprisingly was never available.. so that was a waste of $55!!!

If you are prepared to wait 40 - 1hr for your food then order from here. If you order online and give them a time, expect to still wait when you arrive.

I’m not talking about 16.9.19. I’m talking about all the other times we have ordered from you. Same thing happens.

My refund was never returned to me! This happened 2 months ago!

Only you cAn answer the Manager question because that is what I was told every time I rang up to try and get my refund back.
