Grace Thai Takeaway — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

This has been one of our preferred spots for Thai cuisine, but we've recently observed that it's now under new ownership by individuals of Indian descent, although they've retained the chef. The menu has also undergone some changes, including the addition of items like burgers and hot wings, which are clearly not part of traditional Thai cuisine.

During our visit, we noticed a shift in the atmosphere, as they no longer offer dine-in service, which we used to enjoy. Instead, there's a table near the entrance where they take orders, resembling the setup from the COVID era. Additionally, there's another worker stationed with a computer at another table.

Meat and vegetables were overcooked. Noodles and rice were a bit soft/mushy. None of the dishes provided an authentic taste. I had very little of the food.

There also seems to be an issue with the restaurant in Uber.

Phuket Thai (Uber says 4.5 Stars with 250 reviews) is the restaurant I booked food from on Uber. The address on uber was 883b Manukau Road, Royal Oak, APAC 1061 When you check that address in Google it is for the below restaurant.

Grace Thai Takeaway (Uber says 3.9 Stars with 43 reviews) The address on uber for Grace Thai is 253, Symonds Street, Eden Terrace, Auckland, Auckland 1010. There does not appear to be a restaurant at that address.

We got Tom yum tonight and it was awful. When I stepped into the store the vibe was so strange and different from how it used to be. It felt so awkward, like you couldn’t sit or stand and wait comfortably. There was a random computer mouse on the table. Indian music playing. Menus randomly placed. Just…. Weird.

The Tom yum had barely any meat or vegetables in it, and didn’t taste much like Tom yum. It was really awful and clearly not made by someone who understands Thai food. Massive rip off as its more expensive now with a massive drop in quality from when we used to buy from here.

I am confused why they even bought the business if this is what they serve up. They’ll go out of business if they serve people flavoured water instead of meals and leave...
