Where the rain was hot, but the chicken wasn’t. Rolled up to Mr Katsu in Royal Oak on a rainy day carpark was empty, and so was the shop. Basically got VIP treatment without even asking. Walked in drenched, walked out... full (but flavor-starved). Ordered the Katsu Fried Chicken with rice and Teriyaki Chicken with rice portions? Mad generous. Enough rice to feed a village. But here’s the plot twist: the fried chicken came colder than my ex’s replies, and the teriyaki was so plain I almost mistook it for boiled chicken on holiday. If they served the chicken hot and with some actual seasoning, this could be a five star joint, easy. But right now? It’s a three star with potential. Maybe it’s just me, but my Malaysian tongue demands flavour explosions, not food meditation. Props to the owner though absolute legend. I asked for extra sauce, and he gave me a full tub like I was family. That sauce was the real MVP, carried the whole meal on its back. Small spot, maybe 10 people max can dine in. Cozy vibes, nice service. But if Mr Katsu wants to go viral, just crank the heat up on that chicken and throw in some love from the spice gods. ❄️ Logan was here… and so was the cold chicken.

Fantastic. I loved the chicken katsu don buri. The only thing is there was too much sauce in the dish & the carpark was full, so I had to park somewhere else and then walk over. Pricing is good. There is also sushi, which is discounted near the end of the day. Chicken fried rice was good; just not much fillings. Chicken pieces in bowl consisting mostly of rice. A bit of egg & spring onion otherwise a very simple fried rice.

Popped in for their opening special (half price katsu donburi) and very happy that I did! Fresh yummy chicken and good serving size for what would usually be $13 for a large size or $12 for a regular. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable seating for those who want to eat in and yummy food! Would prefer a more thinly sliced salad but that might just be my personal preference. Will be coming back :))
