On Saturday night I went t the Anchor Bar and I was so disappointed. I am a mother on her own and had planed to take my daughter there for her 21st birthday and grandparents and her brother and a friend. We booked our table for 6.30 and waited one a half hours for our meal. Not only that the waitress who served us kept saying it was coming and it never appeared. Then came out in tears and said that the kitchen staff were being horrible to her and she would no longer be our waitress and she left. Eventually someone else came over and we waited and then three meals came out and they waited for ours. By this time their meals were stone cold and so we told them to start. Then ours eventually arrived after they had finished. We ordered one desert to share and this took for ever and after asking three times the others got their hot chocolate. They said they would give us a discount on our meals but in the end only three people got the discount and the rest didn't. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. So disappointing when I had saved for this special night. Even though they new it was my daughters 21st Birthday she got no acknowledgement and no one smiled they all just looked upset.

When we go to Granados in Blenheim we are made to feel special from the moment we walk in the door and they sing happy birthday and make you feel a million dollars.

I would have appreciated the Manager coming and talking to us and please treat your staff with kindness and not have them in tears. It is not their fault the kitchen staff are so disorganized. I would like a full refund for my night there other wise I certainly will never recommend your restaurant to anyone and won't be returning. Thank you...

Braving the storm, I decided to take my parents out for lunch as they were on holiday with us and the rubbish weather reduced our options for entertainment. We were looking for something to warm us up, something tasty and somewhere interesting, and all being seafood fans, we decided on The Anchor. While the venue was busy, we were quickly seated and immediately asked if we wanted coffee - Great start! The coffee came and was nice, and got our gears moving ready to order our lunch! I ordered the Salmon Nicoise Salad, as I had been feeling a little chubby with all of the eating and sharing I've have been doing! The salmon was served cold, a smoked fillet, whiskey cured, sitting on a bed of fresh salad with potatoes and a poached egg. I really enjoyed this dish, and was surprised at the freshness and quantity of the salad given the season and current cost of lettuce! My wife had the chowder, as she often does, and this was well received and warmed her up on this cold, wet day. My mother had the prawn risotto, and while it wasn't something she would normally order, she enjoyed it. Dad ordered the duck parfait, and this was very tasty although he was eyeing up mum's risotto and helped her finish it! The restaurant is a great place to visit, you can sit and watch the boats come and go. I have often visited on a nice sunny day and sat with a cold beer and watched the boats. A very relaxing undertaking! This day was very wet, but the restaurant was warm and dry, a great way to spend...

A stellar experience at The Anchor Restaurant & Bar! ⭐️ Just finished a fantastic dinner at The Anchor Restaurant & Bar at Port Nelson and I had to share this review, especially after seeing some of the recent comments. The service was truly exceptional—attentive, friendly and efficient. Our waitresses were brilliant, clearing our table promptly between courses and checking in regularly to see if we needed more drinks (and keeping the cokes flowing for our son!). And the food! Everything was absolutely delicious. Our steaks were cooked perfectly to order, the large fish and chips had beautiful fresh fish and the seafood chowder was hands-down the best I've had in Nelson—packed with local scallops, mussels, and prawns. The mocktails were great, and the beer selection kept everyone happy. The atmosphere was also lovely—nice, quiet and spacious. We appreciated how the staff had seated groups with tables in between, giving everyone plenty of room. If you’re looking for a great meal in Nelson with top-notch service and incredible food, please give The Anchor a try! They deserve all the praise. #TheAnchorNelson #NelsonNZ #SupportLocal #GreatFood...

We have been to this restaurant a few times over the last few years. Compared to the first time we went, it has taken a bit of a dive. The service was fast and pleasant. The table was sticky as... even after waitress wiped it. The Salt & Pepper Squid, originally was to die for and reasonably priced... now you get a mouthful for $19, and it has not got any taste to it. Mains Ordered: 2 Ultimate Surf and Turfs (med), one came out well-done (maybe due to it being thin). The Fisherman's Choice, battered fish very oily. The Pork Belly, looked big due to the huge amount of mashed potato. The meals in general looked great, other then the oiliness of the batter on the fish. There was no real great taste to the meals; the sauces did not stand out; and the salads (which I am all for!!), were covered in something but not sure what - as no taste. A huge disappointment.

Do you like seafood? We do, and luckily, we have found this restaurant. We visited on Easter Sunday, and it was not busy at all. There are plenty of seating options, both inside and outside. We ordered different dishes: calamari, a seafood selection, and a cibatta baked with cheese plate. The calamari dish contains a whole calamari, not just some quick-fried pieces. According to my friend, she really enjoyed it. The cibatta was huge, crispy on the outside, soft inside, and served with abundant garlic butter. Finally, we tasted the huge seafood plate, which easily fed two adults. We enjoyed the larger variety of seafood, including mussels, octopus tentacles, shrimp, and other sea creatures. Check out the attached pictures. ☺️
