This motel is suitable for a short stay of a couple of nights (the location is unbeatable), but anything longer might not be as comfortable. Plus: Countdown Grocery store (Woolworths group) and breezy Trafalgar Park are within 3-minute walk. The charming Trafalgar main street with cafes/shops/restaurants and the lovely Maitai river trails are also all within comfortable walking distance. The housekeeping staff deserves a special mention for their excellent service; kept the room clean. Cons: Potential guests should be aware of the noise levels. Noise comes not just from road traffic, but also from other guests, especially when they're in a big group. The laundry facility is equipped with only one laundry machine and dryer. The hotel Wi-Fi wasn't reliable, and I was kicked out quite often. There's a kitchenette, but the sign reads "For the sake of other guests, please refrain from cooking fish, strong smelling, or spicy foods in your room." The "strong smelling food" part is understandable, but fish and spicy foods aren't necessarily smelly - the big sign with the silly emoji on the kitchenette wall was simply annoying. As for the interior, it has an industrial aesthetic with black carpets. In fairness, our company put us in this motel for weeks. It would have been fine if it was just a couple of nights. The location was excellent, and the housekeepers kept...
Read morePalms Motel Nelson is centrally located very well appointed and fully self-contained. Nice bathroom with a good size shower. Being so close to the city centre has its draw backs though being close to major intersection so traffic noise quite loud and the supermarket on the other side of the road has its goods delivered from 6:30am on so we were woke to the sound of a forklift truck doing the unloading. Unfortunately on our arrival there was a very dirty towel in the bathroom, as we did not need to shower till the next morning, we just used one towel then left both towels on the bathroom floor hoping for clean towels, on arriving back in the afternoon we found two towels one wet and the very dirty one hanging in the bathroom. Reception staff came over with two clean towels, but on talking to other guest they found dirty wet towels in there bathroom on arrival, we both think that the towels in both our rooms had not been changed from the previous guests being there. (Makes you wonder when the bed sheets were changed last) Also another guest had a dog in there room on our first night there, which was rather annoying (As one of the reasons we had booked there was my wife has an allergic conditions) This accommodation was ok but there are better in Nelson just remember to book early, not like us and book only a few weeks ahead and have...
Read moreService from the staff was great - very accommodating and helpful. Location was good, easy to walk into town. Rooms need a bit of a spruce up, just left something to be desired after friends had set overly high expectations of this place. The spa tub advertised on all the booking website is quite tiny... they did have bubble bath toiletries, but my partner wasn't able to figure out the jets. Nice that there was a TV in bedroom, but my partner was (overly) disappointed that Sky TV was in living room only. Overall, it was a fine stay. Had all the amenities you'd need, and we were able to get at good price bc of rewards credit, but I wouldn't stay again at their standard rates.
Parking - first come, first serve here.. Which we learned the hard way after rocking up to a completely full parking (taken up by wedding party/attendees who arrived while we were out).. I'm not sure how common that situation is, but it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. The staff let us park near reception, which was appreciated greatly. Still...
