The Tides Restaurant is attached to Trailways Hotel. It looks out on the Maitai River estuary. I went twice dinner and breakfast. The dinner experience was first class. Even though I arrived late from Christchurch I was quickly seated with the menu. Because of the late hour I chose a light selection of seafood chowder followed by Thai salmon cakes. Each was simply delicious especially the chowder which exquisitely balanced several kai moana flavours with a subtle hint of parsley in the background. Read more4.5 I had dinner at The Tides which is in the same location as Trailways Hotel. I ordered the roast of the day which was pork with roasted vegetables and gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed my food that I finished it. It was a huge meal as you can see in the photos so I skipped dessert. I liked how quiet it was during breakfast even though there were other guests around. It was a great start to my day. Overall breakfast experience was very good. I highly recommend The Tides. Food, service and atmosphere were...

If being rude is the culture of the place, then I would take my business else where. If they were really overwhelmed, why make reservation to a big number that a place can’t handle? What is the difference between eating in or taking the order out? I have traveled the world, short of a drunk person or inappropriate behavior, never seen or heard of a restaurant turning people away and refusing...
