So its Sunday afternoon. The sun is shining, the birds are singing......and my stomach is rumbling! Not feeling much like cooking after a busy day, we thought 'Out for dinner...but to where?' Well to The Bach of course. As Stoke locals, we had not been to this location for a long number of years, and it was time for a visit. The wife was in the market for something 'saucy' and I had a hankering for a burger. Checking the menu online suggested that here we could get both. In fact this is a first good sign, the website was very helpful and looked very professional. A great start in this modern age, and an indication that this establishment is run well. We arrived early, not long after 4pm, and the restaurant was empty. This was what we expected, and it was a nice thing. Roz ordered the Seafood Chowder and I the Kiwi Burger. The chowder was incredible - rich and full flavoured, with a beautiful colour, due to the addition of some curry, which gave the dish a lovely yellow tinge. While she suggested that a little more seafood (Scallops, Prawn etc) would have been nice, the flavour and texture of the dish was amongst the best she had eaten. My burger arrived also, and as it was a "Kiwi Burger" it contained some of the expected fillings - Pineapple, Beetroot, Caramelised Onions, Lettuce, Sauce, Cheese and last but by no means least - a juicy, thick beef patty. Sandwiched between 2 fresh halves of the same home baked bun, I was a happy chappy. The burger was HUGE - and while this could be an issue considering the size of my bite, I analyzed the situation and then 'dug in' Starting with it in my hands I managed to take a good number of bites, sampling all of the ingredients together and in their individual parts. When I could get all contents in a single bite, I was impressed by the flavour profile. The sweetness off set by the beef and cheese. I managed to consume half of the burger in this traditional fashion, but then resorted to knife and fork. Another win for me was the fries, they were some of the best I have had in some time. Fresh, crisp and nicely flavoured with salt and paprika. We will definitely be back, as there is a decent sized menu to sample., and I am sure that the rest of the food holds the same level of quality. To top it off, the staff were lovely, and the venue certainly gave off 'Bach' vibes, with some cool kiwiana scattered around the walls, and a number of board games, reminiscent of summer nights with a hot chocolate after a hard days fishing! Pop on in to the Bach, I might...
Read moreI was here for a meal the other day and wasn't impressed at all. I had ham and when it came it was dry and some pieces were burnt. The potatoes were so hot and needed more cooking as were hard as a rock. A few peas and carrots with gravy covered the food on the plate.
The dessert I ordered sure wasn't what the menu said. It said meringue smash with fresh fruit. It arrived with a whole meringue that I had trouble to break up as it was so rock hard. It had whipped cream with a very small piece of strawberry on the top with a toffee pop on the side. Shocking dessert when it comes down to it.
The woman sitting next to me could hardly crack the meringue she had and didn't eat much of her dessert.
With the group of people I went with we have had a beautiful lunch on a previous occasion and we couldn't fault it but not this time. Alot of the meals wern't a uniformed size by any means. Not...
Read moreCan’t thank the team at The Bach enough for accommodating my husband and I for a last minute dinner on a Friday night as they were closing. Having been discharged from hospital, I was longing for a proper decent meal, and The Bach Restaurant delivered. Care and attention was in both our meals, his ribeye was cooked to perfection, and my Seafood Chowder was packed with the ocean, creamy and well seasoned. A side of vegetables for me, and paprika chips with his beef, made us both happy. Stella went out of her way to give us excellent service, and we didn’t feel rushed at any stage to leave, despite them being closed. Very clean, tidy, lovely. Thanks for the cold beer, I’d waited a...
