Another wonderful dining experience at Alpha last night. From the warm welcome from the team when you arrive and prompt service throughout, even though it was a very busy Friday night. Warm and cosy with the fire on, we enjoyed a fabulous Italian burrata with hot honey as an entree. This was followed by both superbly executed cooking and presentation of mains of lamb rump and pork belly schnitzel, both of which were devoured ( without the need for any steak knives I may add!). This is simply one of the best restaurants around, make a reservation so you aren't disappointed. Thanks again to our lovely ladies front of house and serving, with huge kudos to the kitchen. Look forward to seeing you again

A 5 star review is rare from me. The owner chef totally deserves this. Bringing this restaurant back to it's former glory has taken time after it going through 3 owners. The Angus steak meal was so unique with so many layers of flavour I have to tip my hat off to him. Lovely warm pleasing decor and coffee and desert absolutely perfect. Ok so what can they improve on. Easy ..go and see Bootleg brewery and Hopnotic and do a deal on craft beer supply. Your rather light on the options here. Lovely place. Excellent guy behind the bar. Huge selection of craft beers so I tried one from Napier with some beer fries. Gotta say they get chops for presentation Flashiest aoli fries I've had.

Near the end of our 9 week visit to NZ from San Francisco (including meals at 2- & 3-hat restaurants such as Cocoro, Hello Beasty, Logan Brown & Onslow), we thought dinner at Alpha Street was one of our best! Thanks to the new owners & chef Nicole. Salt & pepper calamari was equal to our gold standard of Dux in CHCH, & the lamb rump & vegetables (green beans & broccolini) were cooked & plated to perfection. Wine pairings & sticky date pudding were terrific - we hope to be back again on a future visit.

My family and I had an exceptional dining experience at Alpha Street Bistro in Cambridge. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm and inviting atmosphere, which perfectly balanced sophistication with comfort.

The service was outstanding—attentive without being intrusive, and the staff were genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to ensure we had a great experience. Every recommendation they gave was spot on, and their enthusiasm for the menu was evident.

Now, onto the food—simply incredible! Each dish was beautifully presented, bursting with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and packed with flavour. The menu showcased a thoughtful balance of creativity and classic favourites, making it easy for everyone in the family to find something they loved. Every bite was a testament to the skill and passion of the kitchen team.

Beyond the food and service, the atmosphere elevated the experience even further. Whether you're looking for a relaxed meal with family or a special night out, Alpha Street Bistro delivers on all fronts.

We left feeling thoroughly satisfied and already talking about when we’ll be back. Highly...

We were not greeted upon arrival, and felt as though we were interrupting the gossip circle of staff that had clustered around the bar. We had a different waitperson for every order taken and dish served, and encountered six different people during our visit. Our wait time for food was ridiculous. My beer-battered oysters tasted off, and the batter was clearly fried in old oil, and far too much of it. I didn't finish one, let alone 6. My smoked kahawai pate was edible, but nothing my 10 year old couldn't make and present better, and someone was clearly heavy handed on the lime juice and fish sauce in the pumpkin soup. The chef must have a friend who grows saffron, because this usually expensive, delicate accompaniment was piled high in a mound atop each dish. The decor was tired and the staff aloof. We won't be going back, and sadly, it was a bit of a low end to what had been a great...

It is always an absolute delight dining at Alpha. After spending 4 years going to every restaurant in Hamilton to find the best one with 5 star quality food, we found it in the Alpha Cafe. We will not try another restaurant now, because we doubt we could find one to match the quality of food, service and experience. We go once a month on our date night & still salivate when thinking about the experience to come. I will/would recommend Alpha to anyone & know they would be well rewarded by the experience. I, personally would recommend the salt & pepper squid & the beef rib eye. The latter, you can just about cut with a fork & is always, always, always cooked to perfection. Your chefs & wait staff are a credit to your establishment & provide an absolute masterclass in a dining experience. Love it. Love...
