Cafe Laz Turkish Kebab House — Restaurant in North Island

WOWW!! I first heard about Cafe Laz when I saw one of their stickers in the south island, and after nearly 5 months, I finally had the chance to try some of their delicious food. In my opinion, the mark of any good kebab establishment is really the chicken, and WOW...the fine people at Cafe Laz simply know what they're doing...

I ordered takeout and got the chicken kebab with the hot chili, mint, and yoghurt sauces. Total came out to less than 20 NZD without delivery fees, which alone is an amazing deal. Any other food place at this price point, such as Dominos Pizza, is neither as fresh or authentic as this. My husband later ordered the vegetarian iskender and said the halloumi was "next level."

While my stay in Wellington was brief and I was only able to eat here once, Cafe Laz Turkish Kebab House has become a core memory to my experience here in New Zealand, a mainstay that I believe to be reflective of its integral nature here in Newtown, the greater cultural fabric of Wellington, and those such as myself and my husband, travelers seeking simple sustenance with low expectations (brought about by last night's utterly disappointing Dominos experience) and instead participating in the most purely innocent and evermore enlightening sensations of smell, sight, and taste, a playful harmony that some, like my husband, described to me as a divine encounter.

Seriously, I can't recommend this place enough, and I am already planning to come back to Wellington just for Cafe Laz Turkish...

After a stressful day of pedantically writing my geography report, I attended my sisters graduation, where she became sore in her elbow and at the end she had a big lump covering her elbow and half her forearm. We frantically took her to the after hours in Newtown, and were told it would take an hour to see the doctor. At which my point, my parents and I footed it down the road to this place and left my sister and her bf at the afterhours. And man, this place was a Turkish Delight ;) with quick service, friendly staff and fresh food. On top of this, while we were eating, they played some bangers from Adele, Arctic Monkeys and Taylor Swift. Without a doubt the best kebab in Wellington City... but what makes the difference is the people. A few weeks ago I mistakenly ordered two kebabs instead of a kebab and an iskender as I usually do. When I realised my mistake and I mentioned it, they prepared an iskender and gave it to me FOR FREE. I insisted there was no need and I would pay for it, but they didn't let me. They also insisted that I keep the extra kebab. When you're a local, this behaviour is what makes you come back again and again.
