My partner and I stopped here after a hike, and were flabbergasted by how good everything was! We shared an Irish Stout pie, a pumpkin pork pie, and a slice of chocolate cherry cake. We’ve been sampling pies all around the North Island and the pies we had here were our favorite by far! The crust was buttery and flakey and the fillings were perfectly seasoned. The chocolate cherry cake was also super yummy. I’m not certain, but it tasted like the cherries were soaked in a liqueur. The ganache was chef’s kiss! The woman who checked us out was kind and we appreciated that there was an option to sit outside. Altogether, we spent about ~$18. If we could, we’d absolutely come back again! I was surprised to walk in to see beautiful pastries and loaves. I was torn between a lamb pie and an Irish stout pie. The person ahead of me made my decision for me by ordering a lamb pie and promptly leaving as this small business doesn't have PayPal.
The pie had a thick, well layered puff pastry lid and a thicker than expected shortcrust shell. It was well cooked, if a little dry (my own fault for coming in at 2pm!) The lamb inside was beautifully tender and flavourful with an appealing colour when picked apart by a meticulous maniac (I'll play with my food until I die!) It tasted like they'd roasted the meat for the filling. The curry sauce in it was delicate and delightful, though I wish there was just a touch more of it.
For the price point ($7.50) I was very well pleased! I've paid the same amount for pies filled with gristle and...

We tried the pies as the recent reviews were really good but they were disappointing. I got the chicken leek and bacon and couldn't eat more than a quarter of it. The bacon was actually ham hock and you couldn't taste any leek. It tasted like canned soup. The beef one was better but the pastry was soggy and undercooked. I think the pies had been frozen and reheated. The jam and cream donut was really stale. We were really surprised as the reviews had...
