I've been here 3 times now.... All of the times I ordered the Punjabi Rasoi Butter Chicken specialty. The first 2 times there was about 15 pieces of chicken in this dish. The third time I went back there was only 6 small pieces of chicken in the dish, and 80% of the curry was just sauce. The lovely friendly server asked us how our meal was and I said there was less than half if the chicken that's usually in the dish and that most of my meal was sauce, and I thought there must have been a different chef on that day. The lady said to me what it is is that ingredients are more expensive now, so they have had to give a smaller portion of chicken. I'm sorry but the price of chicken did not go up in the last 3 weeks since we last went there. Chicken is the cheapest meat you can get in NZ, and it's about $12 a kilo to the general public, but restaurants buy chicken at wholesale cost. So we are talking about 50 cents or so worth of chicken they have taken out, and they've lost customers for it unfortunately. This was the best curry I had in my life, now there is barely any meat in it and I won't be coming back to eat a meal of largely spiced cream. I appreciate the server being up front and not denying that half the chicken was gone when I mentioned it. The server is the nicest lady iver ever been served by in a restaurant, but unfortunately I won't be back and they've lost 2 customers, as it's not really worth us going back just to eat mostly spiced sauce. It's a real shame cause this is the best Indian restaurant upper Hutt has had since the original owners of Little India were...

If you’re craving authentic North Indian food in Wellington, Punjabi Rasoi (Upper Hutt) is the place to be!

As a vegetarian, I’m always looking for places that serve truly homely Indian food and this place absolutely delivered! I ordered paneer ki sabzi with naan, and it honestly hit all the right notes. The paneer was soft, fresh, and full of flavour, while the naan was just perfect crispy on the edges, yet soft enough to tear easily. It had that ideal balance I always look for but rarely find! 😋

The whole ambience adds to the charm the colourful décor, the pictures, and the little touches around the restaurant make you feel like you’ve stepped right back into Punjab. The open kitchen vibe is another big plus there’s something so heartwarming about watching your food being made right in front of you. 🍽️

The staff were incredibly sweet, polite, and welcoming they really make you feel like a valued guest, not just a customer.

For anyone in or around Wellington who misses that proper North Indian taste rich gravies, authentic spices, and a homely touch Punjabi Rasoi, Upper Hutt is a...

We recently had the pleasure of having Punjabi Rasoi cater our fake wedding event, hosted by Bollywood Social Wellington, and we couldn't be more impressed with their service. From start to finish, the team at Punjabi Rasoi was exceptionally professional. Their setup was seamless, visually appealing, and perfectly complemented the overall theme of our event. The highlight, of course, was the delicious street food – full of authentic flavors and presented with flair. It brought an energetic and vibrant vibe to the celebration that our guests thoroughly enjoyed. What truly stood out was the dedication and warmth of their team. Friendly, organized, and highly efficient, they played a key role in ensuring everything ran smoothly. We highly recommend Punjabi Rasoi for catering at any event – weddings, parties, or corporate functions. And if you haven’t already, make sure to visit one of their two branches. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you again from the entire team at Bollywood...

We live in the city, but this was easily the best Indian food we’d tried in Wellington. We had a variety of dishes - all an amalgamation of delicious flavours that made us want to keep eating even though we were so stuffed. We really liked that there was a street food section - very rarely do you find Indian restaurants dishing up pani puri! The prices were also surprisingly reasonable for the portions and flavours that greeted us. Amongst the highlights was a creamy, perfectly seasoned kasturi dish, a delicious fish masala and a vibrant, flavourful goat briyani. The chefs and lady serving us were friendly and all smiles throughout service. The restaurant itself was decked out in a cheery, welcoming decor and we loved the matching gold cutlery and water cups. It really did feel like every detail was looked at and overall such a lovely experience, we will try to be back if ever we are in Lower Hutt!

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Punjabi Rasoi, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure that every need was met without being intrusive. The food was the highlight of the evening. Each dish was cooked authentically, bursting with rich flavors and spices that transported us straight to India. The presentation was equally impressive, with each plate looking like a work of art. Overall, Punjabi Rasoi offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy ambiance. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine.

I recently tried the chole bhature at Punjabi Rasoi, and it was absolutely delicious! The pindi chole in particular stood out — so rich and flavorful that it instantly reminded me of the authentic taste of Punjab. The ambiance was just as impressive, with beautiful decor that added to the overall experience. This place has truly become my favorite go-to spot, and I’ll definitely be coming back again!
