I don’t often post food reviews these days (because I’ve eaten at a lot of places over a few decades lol) but these guys deserve a mention. Outstanding Indian and hopefully another glowing review will ensure they are around for many years to come.
I cannot pick a favourite curry because they are all absolutely delicious. But okay okay, the Korma (chicken this time) and Palak Paneer are some of the best I’ve eaten in my life. We’ve also had their prawn curries, the Lamb Rara…basically I want to work my way through the entire menu because thus far everything has been so outstanding it’s made me think ‘Okay THIS ONE is my favourite’ …until I try the next one :P
I also have to applaud the staff for being so friendly and courteous even in the face of Wellington’s hospo staff crisis. Occasionally the food has taken a little longer to come out but that doesn’t mean the staff aren’t working their buns off as fast as they can. There just aren’t as many of them as they might need sometimes & it also looks like they do a cracking trade in takeaways too.
It’s a small price to pay for such delicious fare. Their price point is very reasonable and the restaurant itself is super cute. Very dangerous being located so close to our flat too! I feel a little bad for all other Indian restaurants in Wellington now because there’s no going back now. Do yourself a favour and try this wonderful restaurant. You...
Read moreI recently dined at Indian Alley in Wellington based on positive online reviews. However, I was deeply disappointed with my experience and felt that the quality of the food did not meet my expectations. Specifically, I ordered the Parda Biryani, which lacked the characteristic flavors and aroma I associate with authentic biryani. The Butter Chicken was excessively sour, unlike any other I have encountered at reputable Indian restaurants. Furthermore, the Tandoori Chicken was dry, despite the accompanying mint chutney. When I expressed my concerns to the manager, I was informed that these were the intended flavors of the dishes. As an Indian myself, I found this explanation to be unsatisfactory and was disheartened by the lack of consideration for my feedback. This significantly impacted my dining experience and ultimately diminished my appetite. I believe it is crucial for restaurants to actively listen to customer feedback and strive to improve their offerings. I hope that Indian Alley will take my concerns seriously and consider making necessary adjustments to their menu and service. In conclusion, I paid over $100 for a meal that did not meet my expectations and would have preferred to dine elsewhere. I hope this feedback proves valuable in enhancing the overall dining experience for...
Read moreDo not go here. Raw chicken amongst other issues. No clue why their reviews are good. If there were negative stars I’d give that! We attended with our family including our 4 & 6 year old girls. Service was bad. We ordered our food to all come out together as needed to get our girls to bed. We arrived at 540pm, wasn’t able to leave until 810pm (and they weren’t busy - and we didn’t order starters or desert!). Food took ages and when it finally arrived they just brought out some of our girls food - the chicken completely RAW. They apologised, took it away, a long time later brought it out again, just by itself without all the remainder of our order. We asked where the food was as was supposed to come out together. We complained again to the manager - so the server then came over to my wife saying that we never asked for the food to come out together - which we had all clearly heard at the outset and repeated on several occasions. Sometime later our food came out also missing a rice dish. By now it was 40 mins past when our little ones are usually in bed. When I went to pay they “graciously” offered $20 off our meal (of $240) despite the raw chicken, despite the bad service, despite the fact the food came out late and not at the same time. I could go on - our advice,...
