Read moreA mostly good range of fresh foods and grocery items. But check your fresh produce selection carefully, quality is often very poor.
It is definitely a very expensive supermarket. And the end of day clearance prices on things like ready to eat meals is over the top on what looks to be quite dodgy old food.
Obviously you are paying for the location and the huge amount of staff whose sole job seems to be making the shelves look full. However all they are doing is disguising all the out of stocks. Why are they not using 'out of stock' tags so I as a customer don't have to hunt for the randomly placed price ticket of the product I need, amoungst all the tickets that relate to nothing.
Staff generally try to be helpful, however to be truly helpful English as a first language would be beneficial. It almost always takes some time and explaining, for the staff member to grasp what it is I'm looking for.
As mentioned price tickets almost never relate to the product they are closest to, and it takes some time to figure out which price relates to which product. This is my major frustration with this store. It shows poor stock management and poor customer service.
There is a really good selection of beers and wines. Though very few chilled wines available.
The overall store lighting is very poor.
Car park is very barren and looks uncared for. It could do with some trees...
Read moreA strange and unpleasant shopping experience. I can only assume the owner is an obsessive compulsive because he seems to order staff to scurrying around the store and frantically re-arrange items so that all items on shelves are at the front, and lined up. Minor issue? Well..on many occasions I have watched as staff spend a few minutes lining up boxes on shelves and getting in the way of customers trying to shop while they do it. I almost feel guilty for taking something off the shelf after watching someone spend time lining it all up. I'd almost be tempted to mess up some shelves but I'd worry the staff may get told off! I have never seen this bizarre behaviour take place in any other supermarket, wait... in any other shop of any kind, ever. The aisles are also quite narrow and with groups of staff (sometimes 2 or 3 of them) needlessly adjusting items on shelves, it can get frustrating getting around, especially at peak times. There is lots of space reserved for the bakery and deli departments, most likely because this is where the most expensive items are sold. I'm not sure why other reviewers say this is the best "on the country" because Thorndon NW is easily a more relaxing place to shop in, with a much greater wine selection, and decent...
