A Stylish Stay with a Few Quirks Ohtel Wellington offered a generally delightful stay, blending a fantastic location with a charming mid-century modern aesthetic that we absolutely loved. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff, with a special shoutout to Stefan who was particularly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Our room boasted a lovely view, allowing us to soak in the Wellington cityscape. There may be city noise, but we travel with a house machine so it didn't bother us. The cleanliness of the room was also impeccable, which is always a welcome sight. The hotel's location proved to be incredibly convenient, making it easy to explore the city's attractions, restaurants, and shops. The standout feature for us was undoubtedly the mid-century vibe. The design elements, from the furniture to the decor, were thoughtfully curated and created a stylish and comfortable atmosphere that truly resonated with our personal taste. However, there was one aspect of the room that we weren't particularly fond of: the glass door bathroom. While aesthetically it might contribute to a sense of openness, it offered limited privacy, which was a bit of a drawback. Overall: Despite the minor issue with the bathroom door, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ohtel Wellington. The friendly service, particularly from Stefan, the excellent location, the cleanliness, and the wonderful mid-century design made for a memorable experience. We would certainly consider staying here again, especially if the bathroom privacy could be addressed in future room designs. Pros: Friendly and helpful staff (special mention to Stefan) Good view from the room Excellent location Impeccably clean Stylish mid-century modern aesthetic Cafe, we only had coffee but it was good Cons: Lack of privacy with the glass...
Read moreI don't know if this was the plan when the idea of Ohtel was conceived and then executed, but experiencing a night there has ruined me for all other hotels. We're Wellingtonians now living away and when back we usually stay with friends. But this flying visit we decided to choose a night in town.
We had considered Museum Art Hotel but quite frankly, the website was a nightmare to navigate (and emails went unanswered) and there was very little in the way of images of the rooms or amenities. And the rates didn't align with the pretty inconsistent experiences people had posted about in reviews.
I decided to trust what I had heard about Ohtel which was backed up by the photo's and descriptions online and booked a suite. Oh my, we were not disappointed! I have never stayed in a hotel before, regardless of price, where I truly felt happy to stay IN! From the delicious decor, outrageously decadent bathroom, through to the elegant quality touches and amenities, not a need or want was overlooked. The room was not only impeccably fitted out, sparkling clean and yet warm and welcoming, it was silent. Despite being right on edge of CBD and across from Waitangi Park and beach, the room was deliciously soundproof.
My favourite treats (I will not list all, you deserve some surprises when you arrive): Bath goodie bag - what a delight Tea Leaf tea (no cheap tea bags here) Working record player and albums, this was such a treat! Decadent robes Quality coffee table books, actually worth indulging in Gorgeous mid century furniture and fittings Pillow menu That BATH TUB!
I was genuinely blown away. To complete the perfection, the team there are delightful. Attentive, available, exceptionally kind and gracious.

Read moreLocated right along the waterfront, the hotel is narrow but built deep into the hill. After overcoming the strange little slope at the entrance (series of wooden bumper which made dragging luggage a chore), I checked in at a table next to a sign that read “Ohtel Pantry”, which had initially confused me over which door I should enter.
The rooms are large and beautifully decorated in the mid century (20th) decor. On the bed, there’s a card which explains the type of pillows, from which you can choose to use. I love the fact that there’s a Nespresso machine (seriously, which higher end hotel still uses instant coffee?), and in wet and windy Wellington, I love the heated towel rails and the fact that the bathroom is separately heated. What I did not love about the shower is that it is higher than the rest of the bathroom, so the water will flow out to parts of the bathroom. BTW, each room in the hotel is unique, check out their video to see.
Service wise, it feels like I’m home. Everyone is so friendly, and I love sitting by the window on cold evenings with my cup of hot chocolate with their homemade marshmallows.
Definitely going back to try the...
