I've traveled a lot. And this place managed to have the worst experience in a restaurant of my life. The waiter (I don't recall his name although I'd definitely remember him if I see him again) was very rude from the start. He didn't help us at all at explaining the dishes and didn't even make an effort to do so. A couple minutes after we ordered, we needed to ask him for more beverage. We kept calling him and giving him signals (nothing out of the ordinary, just usual hand signals that everyone does to get a waiter's attention) and we saw that he noted, but not once he bothered to come to us. When dishes arrived, some of our orders were wrong. God forbid telling him that. He just walked out as if nothing have happened. When we asked for the bill, we tried asking him another thing but he just as usual walked out without saying anything. With us, he didn't once smiled or anything. Just kept a poker face. I know for a fact that language wasn't the problem since I heard him talking and laughing with the other waiters in english and I do speak english. When we left, I had to go after him to at least ask his name so I could do some sort of report. He told it to me but sadly I forgot. Nothing to tell about the food. This experience ruined everything else...

Absolutely Shameless!! Could them 0 star if there was an option. Hospitality is what they are very far from…. We travelled from Hamilton and my 2 year old threw up on the floor (outside seating area). They got the mop and bucket outside and asked us to clean or they will charge $90. which BTW would’ve done, it’s basic manners. Their staff was a bit rude and told us to “control our kids” because we had just entered still trying to figure out where to sit and organising high chairs for them. We decided to leave without ordering at this point after sweeping the mess on the floor and accidentally left my baby’s bag behind. We had dinner somewhere else and went back to get our bag. They had the audacity to tell us they were not going to give us the bag back because we didn’t clean up after our sick kid. Lying straight to our face that his staff did it (the rude beard guy behind the counter), which no staff said they did clean up. He didn’t give us the bag because we didn’t MOP their floor!! This is the lowest any one in the hospitality industry can stoop to. We had to CALL THE COPS to get my baby’s bag back. Shame on you!!!!! This is the last time we or anyone related to us is coming here....

Have been going here for over 10 years a couple of times a year at least over this time. However our most recent visit last night will be our last. I ordered butter chicken which used to be my favorite ever butter chicken from this restaurant, but last night it totally tasted like watties canned tomato soup! It wasn't pleasant at all. Also used to get complimentary pappadoms, this time we ordered some, which were stale and disgusting. Ordered 2 separate orders of cheesy garlic Naan, it arrived at the table in cut up pieces in 1 bowl and was all stuck together. At least it tasted good and was the best part of the meal. Have to also pay extra for rice, which used to be included with your curry order. Maybe they've changed ownership or have a new chef, but definitely not the same experience and this place has drastically gone down hill, have had many great meals here in the past and had taken our parents for dinner when they visited over the years. We were not impressed and none of us liked our curries. We had 2x butter chickens, 1x lamb Korma and 1x chicken Tikka masala. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly and attentive which is about the only positive part of our last...

We have been going to the Indian Star for 10 years and have had nothing but consistently excellent service and great Indian food. We have hosted large extended family and intimate dinners and even held a company event there once. Ray has demonstrated why he is always being given the title of host of the year through various awards, by paying special attention to his guests, taking the time to get to know them and remembering the important details and dates. We don’t live in Rotorua, but have more than once taken a 100km detour when travelling through the central north island just to stop in Rotorua for lunch. The tandoori platter is fantastic. There’s a reason Indian Star is always busy often on nights when those around are quiet and empty. It’s a must try!

Indian Star Restaurant on Eat Street in Rotorua offers a delightful culinary journey into Indian cuisine. The warm and inviting ambiance complements the rich and flavorful dishes served here. From aromatic curries to tandoori delights, the menu showcases a diverse range of authentic Indian flavors. The attentive and friendly staff contribute to a positive dining experience, providing recommendations and ensuring a satisfying meal. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or prefer milder options, Indian Star caters to various palates. The restaurant's location on Eat Street adds to its charm, creating a perfect setting for enjoying delicious Indian fare in the heart of Rotorua.

Worst Indian restaurant we ever had. No welcoming vibes from staff. Food is terrible, disgusting, does not even look appetising. Chicken tastes wired. Would give -10 star even possible. I don’t know if they did this to only us or to everyone. Just look at the food picture ive added. Might been our mistake to walk in to this restaurant. We should had left when staff told us we got 3 mins left to order our food. Manager / owner started comparing to other restaurants stating that he had been to other 300 indian restaurants and bla bla bla. Top 1 worst Indian restaurants in all rotorua opps sorry all New Zealand. Even Indian would say Bh***ch*d after eating here.
