Kayak Glow Worm Tour. 7pm - loved it. Perfect timing. A little late to the pickup spot at iSite but made up for it very quickly in their hospitality. I wish I could remember the tour guides name. Lovely girl from England. She was so knowledgeable and fun. My partner flipped the Kayak and wanted to go back, she calmed them down, reassured them that it's safe and got them back on the Kayak. The caves are quite small, you don't row through them, you go in, sit and look and have everything about the glow worms explained to you. (With hot chocolate) and get pushed/pulled out backwards by the guide. We were lucky to have great weather and calm waters. Best part was rowing out on the open water in the dark. I had a lot of fun. They provided a life vest and head light. Wet shoes and wet suits were also available if you wanted. (I did). There is a change room. Just bring a towel. One small bit of feedback. The "princess" as the tour guide calls them, at the front of the Kayak was told to leasurly row and the person in the back rows and steers. Should have told us that the princess doesn't have to row if the person in the back is comfortable. That would have prevented us from flipping over and somehow ended up backwards at one point. We were good once It was only me rowing. 4 starts. Lost a star only because the caves are small and I expected them to be bigger and to be able to row through them. Not their fault. The experience was amazing. Thank you to the whole team and the amazing tour...
Read moreWe met Nev(a really awesome and knowledgable guide) on a cold Saturday evening, he picked us up from Rotorua i-site. We went to the lake and it was just mesmerising sunset. We hopped into kayaks Nev gave us some kayaking tips and safety induction, and we were ready to go. We went to many caves and it was just amazing. We were sitting in one cave surrounded by glow worms and it was the most beautiful sight, felt like we were in movies, Nev gave us many interesting facts and stories! One of the highlights was sitting in the middle of the lake, looking at stars and drinking hot chocolate! It was the coolest experience i have done in New Zealand! Would definitely do it again and bring friends or try other tours! :) If you want a,, personal, once in a lifetime feeling, like you are main hero in the movies, then this tour is for you! Thanks again Nev, it was the best experience ever! :) and we...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience, would highly recommend to all my friends - they are a locally run small business that found a great spot in Rotorua and just wanted to share it with others! Such a friendly bunch, it was a really pleasurable experience to go with them and learn from the tour guide as well!
In contrast to the massive glow worm caves in Waitomo where you're on a huge boat with tons of other visitors, you paddle board out to a small glow worm cave where just a few go in at a time, so it feels like you're experiencing it all for yourself, up close and personal. The water is so peaceful so it's great for beginner paddleboarders as well, and so serene take in at night!
Definitely worthwhile to do as a night activity while you're stopping over in Rotorua, and save yourself the...
