Manou's Waterfront Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in North Island

We used to like this place because it's quirky setout, nice view and nice coffee. However, we felt differently this time when we had our lunch there. My 7yr boy and I ordered big breakfast to share, coffee and fluffy for drink. Coffee and fluffy were great as before, but big breakfast was disappointing. We didn't get to ask how the eggs we would like. When we realized it, it was too late and our dish just came out. We got poached eggs on supermarket tosted white bread, precooked sussages( deep fried?), hashbrown, mushrooms, half tomato and 2 big pieces pressed ham? (it says bacon on the manu). The volumn of food is good, homemade hashbrown was yummy, pouched eggs were nice.However, for the price of $36.5 big breakfast, I would expect a bit better quality. I understood time has been difficult to business therefore we want to support our local business. However, we now would need good reasons to go back to the restaurant that we...

We went to Manou's on the waterfront for breakfast and were disappointed.

Such a stunning setting............unfortunately inside the cafe smelled strongly of old burnt fat.

The service though prompt was a bit surly.

The coffee on the cool side of warm and the caramel late was sickly sweet.

The big breakfast looked nice BUT the poached eggs were very runny (which 2 out of the 3 of us didn't like), the deep fried potato balls had an unpleasant sour taste (maybe they had a pickle in them.....?), the tomato 'top' was under cooked and cold, the sausage was flavorless and also appeared deep fried (not very nice) and the bacon consisted of two lightly fried processed rounds.......disappointing for $20.

On the up side the mushrooms...

I have been to this little cafe so many times before over the last few years and it has been amazing but when I went yesterday I was extremely disappointed. Server didn’t have a clue about the menu when asked questions and mid order she walked away to deal with her child and came back 5min later to finish taking our order. I ordered a cold soda but received a room temp drink with 2 small ice cubes. Food arrived fast but was so greasy and oily I actually felt sick afterwards.
