Phuthai Esarn Restaurant — Restaurant in North Island

📍Phu Thai Esarn One of my favourite Thai restaurants in Wellington, we decided to spend Sunday evening in this beautiful restaurant off Cambridge terrace! We enjoyed a variety of dishes from their new menu, their standard menu karee puff was flaky with a great flavour, and the new baked mussel in tom yum sauce, wow, had no idea these would go so well together, so in love! I'm not usually a mussel lover (clams girl here) but these would be the go to way of eating mussels for me now! We then warmed up with the super rich and creamy tom yum soup with heaps of prawns, I was used to a more diluted version but these should really be the standard setting bodies for tom yum soup! We also enjoyed the minced duck larb and the humungous deep fried blue cod in the tangy sauce, even their rice was beautifully presented (need to order separately), and the perfect ending to our meal was the new fresh mango sticky rice! This restaurant is the only Esarn (North Eastern Thai) restaurant in Wellington.

It is definitely by far the most authentic tasting Thai restaurant that you will have and you will understand why it’s different from normal Thai cuisine.

This is Thai country food and it doesn’t get more real, authentic and mouthwatering than this restaurant! Make sure to book in advance because it’s very busy!

We ordered the chicken Pad Thai, been nam-tok, chicken panaeng curry and deep fried whole fish. It was all tasty an flavourful. The fish was cooked perfectly, served whole with the flesh filleted into nugget sized for convenience. The fish comes with slices of ginger and onion which were fried also in a thin batter, and goes well with the fish. Despite going a busy Saturday night, the service was excellent. I read other reviews where the service was slow but its obvious the the restaurant must have listened the criticism. Our food came in a very short time. The staff made our water jug is refilled when its empty. I think that's good service. The only minor negative is that the portion of curry could be more. Overall a good evening. Would...
