RE Burger Kapiti — Restaurant in North Island

Ordered loaded fries and a burger, could see the people making it, didn't sit on the bench for too long, saw the lady who took my order open up both boxes to make sure all was right. Went home and loaded fries on the cold side, i am not even sure warm is a word i would use. Chips were bland as well, the loaded toppings helped but bland chips are bland chips. Moved onto the burger and that was most definitely cold, tomato slices were thicker than the patty. I wonder if adding cooler salad and toppings takes away some of the heat from the burger. I live close to the Maclean street shops and have had food from that area for over 20 years and have never had food get cold like this taking it home.

I will try one more time when i order for my partner to try because we both like the menu and revise/delete this review.

Went back again tonight, the burgers were hot and tasty, the chips are still too bland, not sure what seasoning is used but i can't taste it.

I went from three stars to one because i was watching the food being prepared through the grill and i saw the lady who was making the burgers prep a burger and whilst doing that one of the wireless token thingies was going off, she stopped making the burger and picked up the token and turned it off and put it back on the counter and went back to making the burger. She had gloves on while making the burger, the same gloves picked up that token and she handled it for a bit and with those same gloves went back to prepping the burger. How many times have those tokens been cleaned? How many hands had touched it that day/week? Basic food hygiene is to remove gloves when touching something else and then putting on new gloves especially when prepping food.

It felt like walking in after the place had been robbed… Bad vibes, shocked faces and judgy body language. Felt uneasy and unwelcoming, almost like we were interrupting them. Approaching the counter the first employee was on her phone and ushered another to step in and assist. The second employee approached and said nothing, we asked for our pick up orders and she looked us up and down before handing over the food with a bad attitude. We smiled and gave a thank you so much. She returned to a group of employees that were standing around and continued to stare at us while trading judgmental faces with each other. No friendly smiles or a thank you have a good one. The food was sub-par in my opinion, buns barely toasted and soggy, veggies weren’t fresh, the fries tasted a little bit old and were unsalted and the tenders weren’t crispy. On a minor good note, the patties were flavourful and juicy, onion rings in the burger were thick and crispy but was definitely a better experience at the Porirua location and would have preferred driving the extra distance. What a disappointment!! I had heard great things, unfortunately I was served by the most sour, rude girl. It was so bad!! She didn't give me a buzzer so I went back over and she gave me another filthy look from the grill and asked what the problem was and came and gave me a buzzer. The food was ok, nothing amazing. My burger was soggy by the time I walked five minutes home. We weren't offered drinks when we were given our combo, another customer said we needed to ask for them. Terrible selection of drinks.
